Does anyone have an experience hiring a part-time nanny?

Do you have cameras around your house? Did you have your nanny sign a contract? Anything else I should be aware of?

Definitely make them sign both a contract and an NDA. Make sure they’re qualified for the role, clear DBS checks. You can have cameras as it’s your home, make them aware. Have settling-in days first and make sure you’re around them a lot to start with until you’ve built a trust for them & so have your kids. Interview them and check their references- make sure you get these from previous families they were a nanny for (would hire someone who’s familiar with the role). Get background checks done on them, investigate if they’ve worked in schools etc and get references. Check for childcare qualifications like diploma’s, childhood studies, Early Years Education etc. Ask to see every single certificate so you know they’re not lying. Make sure you do a brand new DBS check as well, not just looking at a previous one. Make sure you’re familiar with employment law so you’re following all of the right rules & regulations on things like hourly rate/salary, annual leave, notice periods.

You also need to understand payroll etc

I use June care. It does background checks and all that for me. Plus majority of the providers are all moms as well, so they understand you more. Plus you can sort out ones who have the same parenting style or similar. Of course you can still have your own contract and all that, but I’ve been using it with no issues that have come up with other companies or sites. It has been a great help. You can always check it out and decide for yourself. Hi, check out June Care 🌈, a new on-demand childcare service connecting families who need childcare with local, like-minded sitters who can care for their kids.
