Washing

Might be a silly question but are people washing baby's clothes separately or with rest of washing? Currently still doing it separately but wondering when I can just do it all together as I am using baby stuff for all washing anyway

We wash all together with fairy non bio. If there’s poopy clothes we just put a bit of Detol clothes sanitizer in with the load.

I stopped doing it separately after the newborn lot. I never put babies clothes on the washing line though. That gets dried in the dryer or on heaters. Same with my first.

Separate atm but once we have used our washing tabs we'll just use babies tabs and all washing will be done together

I never understand why people do this . You know its all getting washed the same if you use the same detergent and conditioner. It makes no sense to separate?

@Vanessa because this is what was recommended to me to do from midwife, and as a first time mum, I followed healthcare advice initially...but thank you for the helpful comment 😁

But whats the basis behind the recommendation ? It literally makes no sense to me unless your putting babies clothes with very very dirty / soiled adult clothing . Just saying I think it's over the top and induces anxiety xx

@Vanessa the reason is usually because babies' skin is obviously really sensitive so people wash clothes in sensitive skin detergent suitable for babies' skin and keeping it separate from other clothes that might have harsh chemicals in it from colour etc. It reduces the possibility of skin allergies. But tbh I have never done it besides the first time I washed the newborn clothes because I didn't want to shield baby from everything I wanted him to get used to things. I've never used "sensitive" washing stuff either. I just use Surf and Comfort.

Yes, I was told it was for above reason and just to reduce harmful germs etc as much as possible for the first few weeks. Just thought I would ask on here as I know people are sometimes told different things and also some have other children so will have more experience than I do but I was feeling like it was probably time to wash it all together now. It might be a silly question but I am a worrier and so wanted to see what others were doing

@Fatima is there a reason you don't put baby clothes outside? Intrigued if it's pollen/allergy related x

I wash separately still but only because I find it easier to organise after it's been washed. So I do mine and my husbands together, my daughters on her own and my baby's on their own. I just find it easier when putting them away once washed. Otherwise I'd probably wash together now as I use the same washing tablets anyway

Done it all together since day one.. we all use the same washing stuff the non bio fairy so don’t see the point in separating.

@Kirsty mainly because of spiders. I get bit all the time so just shielding my LO's from that to be honest. Even my first born, to this day, (he's now 3) I will blast his clothes in the dryer after they've been outside with mine so any insects come off.

I wash them with our clothes since we use non-bio, gentle laundry detergents anyway (we have a family history of sensitive skin). I didn’t even know it was recommended to wash them separately to be honest. As long as you’re using detergent that’s suitable for a sensitive baby’s skin, I don’t see why not?

I’ve never washed separately and it’s always been fine!

Never washed separate and don’t use any special washing powder just the same as us and never had any skin issues. We use surf washing powder and lenor fabric softener

Together. Ours is cleaner than hers, hers is mostly pooped on 🤣 we use plant based eco stuff, to make sure she has no chemicals near her skin 👍

I know people like to follow the guidelines to a tee, however sometimes we just have to use our common sense. Remember, the guidelines are there to make sure even the dummies don't mess up, hence why they're guidelines!
