Car park horror

Honestly not after judgment already feel like s**t and worst mum in world. Lesson learnt never leave keys in car, I don't normally but today for some reason I did as tried to get stuff out. Today i was in car park, got pram out ready to get my 12 week old out car, when the car locked itself with him, key and phone inside. I quickly got car park staff to help me we tried to smash window even with hammer didn't work had to call 999 fire service to come to smash window to get son out and get keys. Feel like worst mum in world, he was trapped in car for what felt like an eternity but actually less than 15mins and baby was absolutely fine. Honestly not entirely sure why posting but feel horrendous but ironically we were going to baby massage class so what was meant to be calm and relaxing morning turned into morning from hell.

Oh hun I hope you’re okay! These things happen, you acted fast and little man was fine. Don’t beat yourself up over it xx

@Leigh thank you, I feel awful cried so many times. My husband told me to stop being silly it was an accident and it just one of them things, but I feel ashamed and awful. No harm done, he was fine, full of giggles, just emotionally a lot for me, probably also don't help hormonal anyway and tired

Oh gosh this is such a relatable accident! This doesn't make you a bad parent at all; you made a mistake then fixed it as quickly as you could! None of us are ever going to make no mistakes, but when you did make a mistake, you did your best to remedy it quickly. That's good parenting!

I always wonder how cars lock with the key inside? My car simply won't do this (keyless entry). All is well though, so don't beat yourself up over it x

@Rebecca mine is an older car 2012 so it doesn't know where key is.

@Rachel thank you,

This sounds like something I would do! I'm glad you're both safe. You're not a bad mum!! You acted fast, which is good parenting xx

@Linnea I'm normally so careful always keep door open but for some reason I didn't, I feel so stupid.

Don’t beat yourself up 💛 My mum locked my little girl in the car once as well (phone as well) she was down a quiet residential road and didn’t know what to do (whether to leave the car and try knocking on doors or not). Luckily a guy came by while out for a run and called emergency services for her. But she was a wreck and I was just at home getting annoyed that she was late back and going to muck up nap time 🤪 But we laugh about it now and it’s a silly story to tell ☺️

Good point re acting fast @Linnea I would have probably called everyone but help🙈or wasted time over thinking all the consequences. Here’s to looking back at this and giggling some day 🥂 And of course being HUMAN 🙌🏾🙌🏾🥰🥰🥰

@Nikki-Lee it an awful feeling, I know it wasn't bad, he was fine and in few years I will laugh about it but for now it's raw

@Dee my dad said he didn't think he would ring fire brigade as wouldn't have thought of it.

I literally did this to my 3 year old a couple of weeks ago. It was very stressful and I felt absolutely awful afterwards, it took a couple days to digest it and deal with my emotions. It was an accident, just give yourself some time to process it ☺️ and you can bet now you’ll never let those keys out your hands again 🤣

@Katelynn glad to hear, I'm not the only one. It's awful, I will never put keys down in the car again. How did you get in car?

I feel you! I never put my keys in the car but it was literally hammering it down so I shut the door to keep it dry 😬 we managed to call an emergency locksmith who got him out, he was in there for about 30 mins but after his initial panic he was pretty chill in there, watching us and the neighbours try to duct tape the window and pull it down, but it was so wet it wouldn’t stick 🙈

It happened to me when my eldest was about 9 months old. A neighbour smashed a window. It was July and boiling hot. He was only in there for a short time but was sweaty and screaming. I cried and cried. Totally know how you feel and I've never made that mistake ever again!

@Katelynn I suppose it easier with 3 year old as you can talk them from outside so realise they are safe, where as 12 week old doesn't understand also to make it worse mine is deaf so whilst staff tried to sing him songs to calm him, he couldn't hear and too young to know what was happening.

@Rebecca don’t assume that because it can happen with keyless cars even with keys inside especially if a VAG car it’s a known fault, so never ever leave your keys in the car and shut the door because this same thing can happen. I work in a car dealership and seen it a fair few times.

Honestly these things happen, it doesn’t make you a bad mum at all. I’ve done this before, I threw my keys to the front of the car and got my daughter into the car then went to walk to my seat and the car had locked, I had no phone or anything and it was in lockdown (I’d only gone to the doctors) 🤣 luckily some passer bys came and helped me get the car open xx

@Sinead thank you, I never normally leave my key in car I literally pop down so I could get pram out and forgot to pick up and closed door then the horrific click of door locking happened
