High chairs

My family have offered to buy my little boy a high chair for his Christmas. He will be 5 months then so close to weaning. I just want some recommendations on what is good and what is not good. Ideally we need one that is suitable for a smaller baby, he is only the size of a newborn just now at 3 months. Also one that doesn’t take up a large amount of space. *picture just to add to the post*

We have the bugaboo giraffe and it’s amazing, it suits a small baby but grows with the child, it’s more upright than a lot of seats, we’ve found when he has used a chair like the silver cross in your picture he slipped down when he was small as it’s not so upright and often the fabric was wipeable but a bit slippy. I did a lot of research into highchairs as I was worried about choking and essentially the baby needs to sit upright and have good foot support, the most recommended were the bugaboo and Tripp trapp.

Honestly go with the Ikea one! Cheap, cheerful, very easy to clean and you can jazz it up with extras from companies to make it ‘pretty’. I’d say avoid ones with lots of fabrics as they’ll just be a nightmare to keep clean! x

Avoid the Joie mimzy.. hard to clean and the tray comes up really high!

I can’t recommend a good one but I can, based on our experience, tell you what to look for / avoid! Don’t buy one with a busy pattern. It makes it really hard to spot and clean up food spillages! If you buy one with covers, make sure that the whole lot of covers and straps can be removed and bunged in the washing machine. Make sure there are no areas where crumbs can “hide”. On ours, there’s a little pocket that’s a nightmare for this! If you’re short of space, one that can fold up is really handy. An adjustable foot rest is also a useful feature. It’s lovely of your family to offer to buy a high chair but once you’ve picked the one you want I would strongly recommend that you have a look for it on Facebook Marketplace, buy it secondhand and ask your relatives to put the price difference into a savings account for little one. They are sold on pretty cheaply compared to the original price and are fine to be re-used after a wipe down 😊

I have the bugaboo giraffe, yes a little more on the expensive side but suitable for all ages my little boy is on the smaller side too and this has been perfect for him and it transforms into a high chair with adjustable height so he now sits at a perfect height at the table.

In my opinion I wouldn’t and didnt spend lots of money on a high chair I think we paid about 40 or something from Argos we spent even that much because it had good padding and easy collapse

@Bee I agree, I hated trying to clean that one! Sold it and got an Ikea one free on marketplace! So much better. I got a cushion for it and bought a footrest on Etsy

I second the ikea antilop. We got this as a temporary one while I decided on a proper high chair but it’s just been so good we ended up keeping it as our main one. Super easy to clean, can buy the cushion backrest which can be inflated at different levels to suit size of baby, and we bought an adjustable foot rest off amazon and it’s been perfect.

@Jessica think I will do the same! Regret not buying the ikea one! At the time I wanted a folding one but the Joie is a nightmare to fold / unfold as you need 2 hands. Annoying!!

We love our stoke Tripp trapp which has the advantage of growing with your kid. My daughter is now 2.5 and is using it as a chair without the highchair attachments on it at the table

Don’t get the maxi cosi one. It’s sooooooo expensive and hard to clean, hard to use, hard to move, hard to fold. Basically an expensive nightmare that’s also massive. I’d get a trip trap style one if i could go back in time

I have the tutti bambini Nova and I love it! Especially since it had the newborn attachment I’ve been able to use it since birth

Thank you everyone for all your comments I will take a good look at each one shortly!

@Bee yes, I think that’s the one we have! Nightmare. I’m tempted to get rid of it too. Thankfully we bought it secondhand, I’d have been cross if we’d paid full price for it!

@Sophie we managed to get it half price and I’m so glad also didn’t pay full price. Really annoying to use, impossible to keep clean

I have the second silver cross on your picture and it’s fantastic! It also comes apart so when they are a toddler it’s a table and chair!

Even if you go for a different one I really recommend the Ikea one for grandparents houses etc. I absolutely love ours. We don’t use the tray, just pull my daughter up to the table with us and use a suction plate/bowl. Whenever I go to a restaurant and they have Ikea high chairs I am THRILLED.

My advice would be to get a cheap ikea one. I have the silver cross one and even though it’s a faux leather / plastic material the seat cover was impossible to clean. And it was just messy!

We have the silver cross buffet and love it 😃

We have the silver cross buffet and love it as it reclines. Been putting our girl since 3months old during the dinner time so we can all sit together-she loves it.

I’ve this one. Seems good enough xx https://mybabiie.com/products/billie-faiers-oatmeal-herringbone-premium-highchair?variant=44059230994669&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2022-06-22&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAoYrA3zBOHyCBirm862UuqfveMzDZ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI77SoiM3_iAMV0pKDBx3O9Sl_EAQYBCABEgL0yPD_BwE
