FIL Going through my stuff

So I live with my partner and his parent, my partner is on the road due to work and mother in law is on holiday for a month, today I had come home with my baby and went to my room and noticed my FIL has been in my drawers because stuff from my drawers was in the bin downstairs and to double check it was from my drawers I checked them over and over again and I know it was my stuff and I know it’s not me who’s done it, it’s not the first time he has been in my room when me and baby are out as I find things misplaced. I don’t want to cause arguments between my partner and his parents but I don’t feel safe in my own home. What do I do when it’s just me and my FIL alone for the month (bare in mind my partner is only home on weekends)

What did he throw away? That is invading your privacy and he has no right to throw your things. It needs addressing. You should tell your husband. Can you stay with your family/friend until your husband is back?

Speak to your partner and put a lock on the door

@Roze I had some stuff for my baby in the drawers and he was in my room and threw them away keep in mind my partner pays half rent so it’s supposed to be our private safe space

@Bee I’m thinking more of telling my partner I’m leaving and until we get our own place I’m not coming back

@Maridel I’ve left my partner a long message basically telling him I’m going to stay with my family until we get our own place, with a long I’d need one from both ways, I have this anxiety now that he will come and check up on me and my baby when I’m sleeping or something

Oh god. I think you’re doing the right thing by putting your and your child’s safety first. I’m glad you have family you can go to. I really hope your partner understands and backs you up.

Is your FIL mentally unwell?

I would definitely be putting a lock on it.

https://a.co/d/bDtgQNW I would set this up…immediately. It could be intrusive but relatively innocent…or it could be something very violating. You need to know. I would see what’s going on and have the facts on hand when approaching everyone.

@Francesca honestly I think so

@Tiff my sister told me to get one also

Please do. $30 well spent! You need to know what’s going on.

100% if you can leave, then do. I wouldn’t feel safe or comfortable there..
