Staff meetings

I have a staff meeting coming up and I can’t find child care for it. It’s 6-8 pm so no nursery’s open. Their dad works away and I don’t have any family all passed when I was younger and his family the dad just had major surgery so all looking after him. I told the manager this and she said she gave me enough notice and it’s compulsory. But what can I actually do 😭

What area are you in?

Can you request online, maybe turn off mic and camera. Also employers are now obliged to give fair hearing to flexible working requests.

I don’t think you can be forced to attend a meeting outside your contracted hours can you? Are you being paid for the hours? The only option is for you to bring your child or as suggested above join via video call.

I told them today I 100% can’t find childcare still and they said they will see if I can join video call or something. The manager still thinks I should find childcare tho 😅 it’s not paid nope

@Lou I’m in Chester

Ah that’s a shame, I’m in London, I would have said you could bring your little ones over to play with mine while you head to your meeting but obviously that wouldn’t work if you’re all the way in Chester 😬 Hopefully your work can sort something out where you can join the meeting by video, your manager sounds mean and not very empathetic ☹️

@Lou Awwh how lovely of you! Thankyou. I know opposite sides of the country haha! She really isn’t, she doesn’t have kids so doesn’t understand how hard it is… thinks I can get them watched in a blink of an eye
