Newborn cosmetics

Reading mixed reviews on what kind of powders/ creams/ soaps etc to use if any on a newborn Some places I read say they don’t even need anything in the beginning but other sources say you have to maintain baby’s hygiene with products Thoughts??

Water is fine for the first few weeks but I would use a gentle soap on the diaper area if necessary. If you are, I suggest fragrance free for sure. Lots of these products like Johnson & Johnson brand have so many harsh ingredients. I would use something like eucerin very light and no scent! I don’t think powder is necessary, my baby is 2 months and never used it. Just eucerin lotion, wash, aquaphor ointment and sometimes desitin if he has a diaper rash.

I use tubby todd, it’s pricy but so far I like the products a lot

Have never put a moisturiser on (except when had a rash and advised by doctor, used prescription til cleared up). First 2 months used only plain water, then we started adding child’s farm bubbles/body wash. They don’t need anything fancy when they’re so little. We’re 16 months in now.

Plain water for first 2 months, then minimal wash and lotion, mine is 12 months and we use bath wash and lotion (aveeno) 2-3 x per week Powder is not recommended, it's not good for their little lungs 🥺 and don't use things with fragrances, there's no need

Newborns don’t need much. Their skin is so sensitive. In general I try to use fragrance and dye free things. Brand I like are Mustela, Honest and Tubby Todd.

mine has had eczema from quite early on, and very sensitive skin. when she was a baby we used baby dove (fragrance free sensitive one) and baby dove lotion. for powder i just used natural corn starch because there can be a lot of harmful chemicals in baby powder. the corn starch was just for her neck because the skin in her neck rolls would become raw from drool without it. for diaper creams i just used aquaphor. now that shes 2 we still use baby dove soap, eucerin eczema lotion, aquaphor and a prescription eczema cream as needed

They don’t need much. I put a tiny squirt of his bath wash into bath water which that bottle lasted a year 😂 and for moisturising I used coconut oil that I already had. I don’t use any powder and diaper cream only when they need it, in 2.5yrs I went through 3 tiny sample tubs of Sudo which I got for free in the sample Mum bags
