Cradle cap?

Hey guys. I think my baby who is 8 weeks old has cradle cap, see picture below. What are the best remedies? I’ve heard coconut oil is very good, but how do you apply it? Do you apply before bathtime and leave it on the skin for 10-15 minutes before washing it off? And do you guys bath your little one every day? I’ve tried bathing him every day, but I’ve noticed his skin gets pretty dry even though I apply baby oil and I massage the skin afterwards. I’m also worried that applying baby oil on such a delicate skin every day it’s not ideal.

I use the dentinox shampoo for cradle cap on my 8 week old and it’s really helped. https://www.boots.com/dentinox-cradle-cap-treatment-shampoo-125ml-10021913?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc-_-PLAs-_--_-pmax_mother%26baby__gg_shopping__top250___pmedia&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAA-AdmwSaWELmrumI3g-EinrPXP2c2&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjY64BhCaARIsAIfc7YYDa1KbJ6bPVq0IKKVGahdmanYHdisyCb8Vdst3-5SiDXrFBMyP-aYaAkvwEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I only bath him 3 times a week at the moment or his skin gets really dry if we do any more often. But we wash his hair over the sink with that shampoo most days. You have to do 2 applications each time with the shampoo like the directions on the bottle say for it to work properly x

Thanks Rachel :)

My LO has really bad cradle cap and it absolutely stinks of cheese ….. literally to the point where it makes me want to vomit when I’m holding him. Definitely don’t feel like it’s normal. Do you guys find that it has a smell?

I can’t smell anything on my little one. Becky I think if it got to that point it might be worth contacting the gp.

Sorry to hear its so bad. After you applied the coconut oil did you washed the hair or did you leave it in?

I left it in but I went to the pharmacy this afternoon and they suggested medical olive oil as it’s not as thick as coconut oil. Will see if that makes the difference 😵‍💫

I rubbed baby oil into my babies head then brushed it through with a soft baby brush which took loads of it out then washed the baby oil out in the bath, worked a treat. I normally only bath my LO once a week max twice.

I second baby oil then brushing. My 1st baby had really bad/thick cradle cap and LOADS of hair and I only had to apply the oil and brush it out once and it never came back

Awesome, thanks so much guys! I did the same this evening with coconut oil, and then I washed it off and brushed it through and its significantly better :)

@Becky I would suggest washing off the oil, whichever you end up using after 15-20 minutes.

@Becky just following back on this as I tried the Dentinox cradle cap shampoo and it worked miracles. My baby’s hair started smelling a bit funny too, but after only one wash the cradle cap and smell is almost gone. I recommend trying the shampo if you haven’t already :)
