Consultant/ Anaesthetist Appts

Is it normal to have a Consultant and Anaesthetist appointment at 32 weeks? Both on different days?

This will be based on your specific medical history and plan for birth. "Normal", no as standard care in the UK is midwife led care. But it is normal if you're under consultant led care and may be having a c section

@Charley All I can think of is because I have a ‘high’ BMI. Not had any discussions about birth yet either!🤔 very confusing 🤣

@Em that could be standard protocol in your hospital, "high" BMI could trigger anaesthetic review so they can assess whether epidural/spinal injections are potentially more tricky. Your birth planning appointment normally is with your community midwife around 36-38 weeks, but its likely the consultant will discuss certain aspects with you too

I had high BMI and had to have consultant and anaesthetist appointments. The consultant appointments were normally after a growth scan and I just had one anaesthetist appointment to explain about epidural and spinal taps etc, they also checked my spine to see how it would be to put one if needed

Thank you girls!! Makes more sense now xx
