Nursery refusal

My 3year old started nursery in august. Absolutely loved the settling in sessions for 2 weeks it was a fight at home time to get him home. Then he was ill and I had to keep him off for a couple of weeks and now every morning is a tear filled mess as he refuses to go in and I’m having to have him actually peeled from my arms as he’s sobbing. Any tips would be helpful 😢

It gets easier, consistency is key. Things that we found helped - taking something to ‘show and tell’, even if it’s just oh xxx person can’t wait to see that you have Spider-Man on your top.. ideally someone you know he likes - talk about what your doing when you get home. My little one asks ‘when I get home from pre school where are we going’ and he talks about it at nursery all day - don’t hide that he’s going and surprise him, knowledge is power, they don’t like the unknown - keep going, it’s hard but it’s short term. My 3yo has gone for 2 years and after every break of not going has the same upset for a couple weeks when going back.

I read this as if the nursery were refusing him. He will settle again eventually. Just be enthusiastic. Does he settle down quickly once inside? Xx

Thankyou! I will try all this! He settles after around 30 minutes/ an hour but it’s just heart breaking every morning sending him in when he really doesn’t want to go and gets so upset x

Aww I hear you. Its awful when they are so upset. Xx

Have you tried a now and next board? my son hated going into nursery until he was in retuine and that included a now and next board.

bring a comforter(his fav toy)
