Tongue tie release

We have our daughter scheduled for a tongue tie assessment tomorrow at 10 weeks. I’m sure she has one. I wondered how everyone’s little ones found it and whether anyone had any side effects I should be aware of? She’s clicking a lot on her latch and very gassy so really hoping it helps!

my baby instantly latched better with it. i was terrified but she cried for about twenty seconds. they recommend feeding instantly after to soothe them. there'll be some blood but that's the scariest bit. it honestly differs between each baby but ultimately the benefits outweigh any negatives by far. they're so tiny and don't obviously remember a thing. she was feeding better, much more full from feeds, and didn't cry from an upset gassy tummy anymore.

@sherrie thank you so much! That’s really reassured me. I know it’s different for everyone but puts me at ease, so glad your little one is better!

My LG didn’t cry, bleed etc but every baby is different. It honestly will be nowhere near as bad as you think. The latch etc will improve but it can then get bad again for a few days whilst they relearn to feed with all the movement with their tongue. It’ll then improve again 😊

Mine had it but after we released it she feed so much better! She will cry, there will be a little bit of blood and you’ll probably need to do exercises with her for a few weeks but it’s worth it!

Thanks everyone. So reassuring! She’s had a bad week post vaccinations so I feel bad putting her through something again

My grandson didn’t struggle with feeding before having it done but it needed doing as his was right to the tip of his tongue which they were worried about having an impact on his ability to swallow solids when he was older. He was more upset about being wrapped up and having his head held still than having it snipped. They’ll give you some information as well when you go to read through so you’re not overwhelmed with them just talking at you x

My LG cried alot and there was lots of blood... but she was 4 months old when it was done. It made such a difference to how she fed though and she went back up to her birth centile after dropping down. They should get you to try to feed as soon as possible afterwards to comfort baby, aid in healing the wound and also get the tongue moving. It took about a month before our LG really started sticking her tongue out after and I was so worried it had reattached despite doing the stretches/sweeps they told us to do but she has so much more movement now. They told us to bring calpol but we forgot it and she didn't really need it. Wear something dark though, you and baby, I got blood staining on my nursing bra, my jumper and her cardigan.

My daughter had hers snipped at 11 weeks. She cried briefly at being swaddled and the doctor said they cry more from the weird sensation of the release than actual pain. I immediately fed her and she stopped crying and the pain improved for me, clicking noise stopped and she finally started pooing more than once a week! We carried on breastfeeding until she self weaned at 21 months
