What is the best thing to soothe baby’s head?

My girl has always had mild cradle cap thats never really amounted to much and hasn’t bothered her so we’ve never used anything on it. I thought it was pretty much gone the last few weeks as I couldn’t see much under her hair but today I’ve noticed it’s really flaky all of a sudden and she is scratching her head silly until it looks sore. What’s the best thing to soothe the skin?

Breast milk is pretty good if you're breastfeeding. My little girl has always had too much hair to really notice the cradle cap at all

She is formula fed unfortunately 😢 xx

Frida 3 step cradle cap is brilliant.

Might be fungal overgrowth if it’s itchy, as cradle cap shouldn’t itch. Some people recommend happy cappy shampoo. Probiotic might help.

@Emily oh yeah I’ve just googled it too.. hmm, I am wondering as well if it could be a new shampoo irritating her? I only shampoo her hair every couple of bath times and last time I used a new one. Because it doesn’t look fungal 🤔🤔

@Annabel how often would you use the oil? X

Yes definitely could be the new shampoo, she might be allergic to something in it? Sometimes they have things like coconut or oat in that babies might be allergic to. My son’s eczema started off as cradle cap, his head has always been the itchiest part and we’ve only recently figured out it’s fungal & have been given an anti fungal cream to try. I also suspect he reacts to coconut. Just thinking it could also be dryness from over washing so maybe just do a plain bath and wait a few days before washing the hair again to see if that helps x

Btw jojoba oil is a good one to use as it’s neutral and won’t make a fungal overgrowth worse (if it is that). Whereas some other oils can end up feeding yeast x

@Emily this is super helpful thank you! X

Twice a week I think? Tried to avoid washing his hair much (although he doesn’t have much!) and only used water when we did, or the above shampoo. You rub the oil in with your fingers and then a soft brush. Worked really quickly for us

I was actually prescribed the Aveeno body wash and moisturiser. And use a soft brush to gently wash hair. It worked really good within a week it was gone and I keep using it as not medicated you can buy in the store xx

I was using the dentinox shampoo for cradle cap but didn’t help with the thicker bits I didn’t find. In another chat someone else suggested coconut oil. I lathered it on , left it for 15 minutes and then soft brush& combed her head and it’s gone 😄
