UK Flu Jab

Does anyone know if breastfeeding mums are eligible for the flu jab in the UK? Our house has its 4th cold since my little girl was born 6months ago (dad is in and out of homes as part of his job), and while LO has somehow skipped it, I’ve been affected badly each time, with recovery made worse I’d imagine by not being able to take any OTC medicines due to feeding and worries about supply. (Yes I’ve had paracetamol water and as much rest as you can have with a snacky BF baby who doesn’t really sleep 🤣) I know the flu jab won’t stop all sniffles but I hate to think how I’d cope if I caught flu 😬

I don’t think breastfeeding makes you eligible for it but you can have it whilst breastfeeding if you’re eligible for another reason. I think, but not 100%. I’ve had one and am breastfeeding but was eligible as I have asthma.

I’ve had a text to say I’m eligible for a Covid jab because of a previous asthma spell so may just call the docs and push my luck 😂 thank you! I’m not sure I would cope with flu and feeding, current cold is draining me!

@Jenni I think you should be eligible for the flu jab as well then! Totally get you. I had to feed through us both having Covid and I actually thought I was dying at one point.

If your not eligible you can usually pay to have it at a pharmacy. Sometimes a bit later than those who are eligible but used to be around £15

@Jenni if you are asthmatic you can get a free NHS flu jab at your local pharmacy:) If youre not eligible, I believe it’s about £18 this year for a private jab. x

@Cerys I wouldn’t really say I’m asthmatic to be honest, after Covid I had a cough that stuck around d and got given an inhaler as a one-off but I think it’s on my record as high risk. I’ll call the docs to check as don’t want to be cheeky and will pay for one otherwise!
