My mother is hell bent on getting the baby a high chair. It’s the same one that I had when I was a kid. I can’t really use the high chair. I’m a wheelchair user. It’ll be difficult for me to get her in. But my mother is convinced she’ll be able to use it when she’s a toddler because it turns in to a table and chairs. My mom knows i don’t want it right now and I want necessities like diapers. She still won’t budge.

Is it one of the ones that turns into a booster seat? Those you can attach to a chair so it’s a different height. A high chair is really helpful though, they help keep baby in the proper position for eating. Either way I would say thank you, that’s $50+ you won’t have to spend

Maybe try and pivot her attention to the bumpo I think it is? It’s 3-36 months. Can be on a table or strapped into a chair. Identify that she is offering something nice and nostalgic, but logistically it won’t be used and be taking up space and that if she wanted to still get a feeding chair that is helpful then the one mentioned above would be better. It’s difficult cuz she thinks she is being helpful and thoughtful but is really causing you stress.

@Caryn bumbo! It’s 6-36 months (or whenever baby can sit independently), but still a good idea. I also like how you said she’s offering something nice and nostalgic. Megan - This gift is as much for her as it is for you and her grandbaby. She wants to give you something that will be used for a long time, not something that’s going to be soiled and thrown away. If you’re really against any kind of chair, do you still need a crib, car seat, or stroller? Maybe some kind of baby carrier? They also have adjustable changing tables. If she really wants to get a table and chairs, there’s lots of options for multi-activity tables so toddler can play on it. Swings/bouncers are lifesavers, as well as play mats. If she still won’t budge, just take it and store it in a closet until your toddler can use it as a table. You can’t really tell someone what kind of gift to give unfortunately

@Megan that’s a great one! It can be used as a table when she’s a toddler, and they come with straps so as a booster seat it can attach to a chair that’s a good height for you. High chairs are definitely still a necessity, even though it may not be until 4-6 months. Baby is supposed to be in a 90-90-90 position to eat

@Kassidi I knew I spelled it wrong. 😅 I was gifted two of them so when we drove to LA for the baby shower (we live in Vegas, a lot of bigger stuff was shipped due to car space) but I took one and left it at my parents house so it’s one less thing to pack when we go visit. I thought it was a great concept, I don’t need a high chair with that thing and it takes up so much less space.

@Caryn no worries, I just didn’t know if Google would be able to find it if Megan searched bumpo 😅 they really are a lifesaver though, being able to use it as a floor seat or a high chair

@Kassidi thank you! I was honestly just afraid I wouldn’t be able to use it. But if I can strap it to a chair. It’s doable

@Megan it has retractable straps and everything. Can be used with or without the tray, which stores in the body of the seat.

@Megan she honestly did a really good job picking it out! It comes with the straps to attach it to a chair, the tray is removable which is so much easier to clean, the table comes with another top to use for bigger legos, and the stool will also be helpful when you have a toddler (if you don’t mind her being able to reach everything 😅) But I totally understand where you’re coming from. With my firstborn there were some gifts we got that just sat around taking space and that’s not helpful at all!
