Bloody mucus in newborn poo

My baby is 4 weeks old now and has been having bloody mucus and bloody streaks in every bowl movement he has for the last week. He doesn't have a temperature or any other problems he's eating fine sleeping fine and seems like his normal self. We went into hospital for it for 3 days and altho he has no other symptoms they think it could possibly be a milk allergy but not 100% sure. They've put him on special milk now but there hasn't been any chnage after being on it for 6 days now. Has anyone else's baby had this? Did you ever find out what was causing it? Do I need to be worried?

Keep pushing it. I'm sure there's a simple reason but definitely should be seeing an improvement by now

My son had blood in his nappies when he was a newborn and now even one year on he's done a few the past week. Is your wee boy ever constipated or push alot?

We had this as well: started off with very liquid poo and baby was very uncomfortable and later on very mucusy and blood streaks. I cut dairy out of my diet and started seeing an improvement after a week or so. Also suspected milk allergy. They say it takes 2 weeks to get out of baby’s system completely.

If it’s cows milk allergy it’s 2 weeks to get out of your system if you’re breastfeeding then a further 2 weeks to get out of his system. With you saying they gave you special milk - if he’s only having that it will be minimum 2 weeks before it’s out of his system but you should see a change after 4/5 days but not always. Hope he’s okay and you get to the bottom of it

My baby has CMPA and the mucus in his poo didn’t stop until after 8 weeks of being on the formula so you don’t see an improvement straight away at all. Although, he didn’t have blood in his stool. Check with a pediatrician that it’s okay the blood is still there

It could either be a milk allergy or it’s a protein allergy is what the doctor will probably tell you. It’s honestly a simple fix if your formula feeding they’ll just switch them over to a hypoallergenic one, but if you’re breast-feeding honey, I honestly don’t know what they would do I couldn’t breast-feed with my Little, but she turned six months tomorrow and she’s had an improvement in her vowel movements since they changed her formula over and she was only two weeks old when that happened.
