@Kirsty was yours anything in the end or are you waiting for the referral? Did your little one grow or stay the same - i didn’t think too much of it until it has grown so much! I really hope it’s a nothing, he isn’t bothered at all by it xx
If he is fine in himself I really wouldn’t worry. If he was unwell with it you would start to notice by now. There are so many things it could be/not be. The skin is a funny thing, especially when so delicate.
Looks a little bit like eczema to me
@Jessica definitely not eczema unfortunately, my daughter used to get discoid eczema and it’s nothing like that- it’s a hard lump and the skin isn’t broken or dry
Could you try some of her steroid ointment and see what happens? 🤷🏻♀️😅
In the end it turned out my little boy had a deep hemangioma (strawberry birthmark) on his eyelid. He'd had what we thought was a blocked tear duct for months and when it finally cleared was left with a blueish lump on his top eyelid to the point his eye wasn't opening as much as the other. The gp just said it was swelling and would go, which it didn't. Once we saw the consultant, we were given a topical treatment that essentially slows the blood pressure to the area and shrinks it. He has another on his cheek below the same eye. If its in a place where it's not interfering with anything then they're completely harmless and tend to fade or go away completely in a couple of years. There are different types of birthmarks though which is why I mentioned its maybe something to consider. If it is, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. It's good he's not bothered by it. Hope you get some answers! X
@Kirsty thank you for this! That is really helpful and comforting! I don’t care about it being there aesthetically as long as it’s not a health concern xx
Obviously it is best to get it checked as you've mentioned, but it could be a birthmark. Hopefully your GP will put your mind at ease and give you some answers, if not maybe ask to be referred to a paediatric dermatologist if they can't give you a definite answer. This is from experience, my little boy developed one after a couple of months on his eye lid and the gp was pretty useless. We went to eye casualty in the end and they reassured us and has us referred
