Hurricane 🌀 Helene

I’m seeing lots on social media about the destruction and devastation from the storm. I am far from there. But I’m having a hard time understanding where the damage is. I’m hoping someone can circle the best they can so i have something tangible to look at.

I can’t speak on other states but my own but from what I have heard from people in that area it’s been pretty bad. The normal works of Hurricane and then some. But from what I’ve heard it’s a lot of western-mid NC but I feel like it’s safe to say possibly eastern TN too. Also some rural parts of NC.

Tampa area and where the storm originally made landfall in Florida is also not going *great* but not as bad as what’s going on in NC and TN. Hundreds are missing, hundreds are dead. Anyone who says these people deserved whatever they get because they didn’t evacuate has a special place in hell with their name on it. No one up there knew it would hit as hard as it did and by the time they received warnings to leave or shelter in place the storm was already on top of them and it was too late for anything to be done. This storm hit as a Cat 4 and stayed strong over land. Usually once they hit land they begin to break part and dissipate, especially over the mountains. But this storm was one for the record books. I live in South Florida and was very close to being in the path of this storm and I count my blessings every day that it didn’t hit us. I cry for all of the people affected by it. It’s heartbreaking.

Florida is built with hurricanes in mind. No one expects a hurricane to hit and wipe out NC and TN. So not only were they not prepared, but their infrastructure isn’t built to withstand hurricanes and floodwaters like Florida homes and construction are.

I live in SC, right where it’s been hitting but not nearly as awful as in NC. it has been AWFUL to say the least. people have come into my work telling me they can’t find their family, or their entire house is just destroyed. my friend who lives near me, her road was destroyed and cannot even drive home.. she said it looks like something out of the walking dead with all the cars stranded all over the road 😔
