@Victoria thank you for the response! I will look into this! Btw, how did you get your doctor to send your daughter to a gastroenterologist? I really want to have my daughter checked out too, but her pediatrician says it’s not necessary bc she’s only 3 months & her symptoms are commonly found in many infants
I found my pediatrician to be super dismissive about my concerns about my daughter in general- I asked them to test her for dairy intolerance since we were having so many issues with formula (and tried so many) and had to be really assertive with them to actually do the test (which turned out was positive) and I knew my daughter was having reflux issues which they were also dismissive of so I’m lucky that with my insurance I didn’t need a referral and was able to just make an appt. and go around them.
Ahh I see! I haven’t tested too many formulas yet, but I definitely will push her doctor in figuring this out. I hate to see her in so much pain for no reason! Thank you again!
Testing for diary intolerance was great for us because we were able to narrow down formulas- I would definitely suggest that as a start but the probiotics definitely can’t hurt!
My daughter is also three months and was on the same formula and I breastfeed as well. She is so gassy and I’ve been wanting to try a different formula she was on the kendamil but starting spitting up so that’s why we tried the similac 360. The milk smells horrible so we have been trying the organic Similac. Something that I noticed that has been helping is giving her probiotic drops in a bottle. My aunt who’s a nurse also said giving water would help her use a medicine dropper and give 2mL of water but that makes me nervous because there are so many articles against that.
@Alexa I was considering trying Kendamil but my daughter doesn’t spit up & I definitely don’t want her to start now. Also, are the probiotic drops helping with her gassiness as well as pooping? I would be very iffy about the water suggestion too! I am a ftm but I thought infants couldn’t drink it until 6 months due to their kidneys being too small 😭
@Aylin she’s passing the gas like any other person she’s not in any discomfort. Definitely helping with her pooping she goes 1-2 times a day. Yeah the water thing in going to wait on until 6 months as well
@Alexa Ok cool, so Similac 360 with probiotic drops. Definitely will look into it thank you again!
So my 4 month old ended up having a dairy intolerance but had the opposite problem of your daughter - he was pooping 5+ times a day and it was super watery. Switched him to a non-dairy formula (Enfamil Nutramigen) and now he only goes once or twice a day and it's more like an oatmeal consistency. Occasionally he'll have super hard stools where he really cries in pain and grunts and pushes really hard. When that happens, our pediatrician recommended giving him a bottle of 2 ounces prune juice (or prune apple juice) mixed with 2 ounces of water. We give him that in addition to his formula bottles for the day and it really helps "loosen things up" to make it easier for him. Gerber makes an apple prune juice that we found in the baby food aisle. Hope this helps somewhat!
Forgot to mention, we also give him Mylicon gas drops whenever he seems to be really gassy.
My baby has never been a big pooper. When he was a newborn he only pooped once a day and since about 1 1/2 month switched to pooping every other day. For the last month he has been constipated to the point where he goes 3-4 days without pooping so we give him 100% juice and that works almost instantly or within a few hours. I called my doctor yesterday because like you, I feel bad that he’s uncomfortable for days and can’t go. Then when he goes it’s marble sized solid nuggets. His doctor recommended adding in probiotics as well. I’m going to look into it!
We started giving our daughter BioGaia probiotic at the suggestion of her gastroenterologist and it has helped a ton! You do 5 drops in 1 bottle a day and you can purchase them on Amazon.
