Testing

Hey mamas so I’ve had my anatomy test and the ultrasound tech said my baby is healthy! Should I still do the blood test for Down syndrome, sickle cell (me and my partner are not carriers) and trisomy 13 & 18?

Following. I'm in the same boat. I missed that test and will be having my anatomy scan on Monday

At this point, I'd ask your doctor. It's usually a first trimester screening so I don't know if it's still necessary after a healthy anatomy scan. I guess it would depend on if down syndrome and trisomy 13 & 18 would be detectable from an ultrasound or if the blood screening is needed to determine the risk factors of the baby having it.

Yes I would still do the testing. Mine came back super fast 2-3 days.

I’m glad I did the genetic screen! They initially told me my anatomy scan was normal but then found and echogenic cardiac foci (which can be either completely normal or associated with higher Down syndrome risk or trisomy 18) so I would have been extra nervous if I didn’t already have the genetics done already

If you’re concerned about the baby’s genetics or chromosomes def do the test. I don’t believe an ultrasound can detect either.

I did it cause I have first time mom anxiety and wanted an early gender test lol. But the docs should be able to keep an eye on things even without the test

Completely up to you. I did genetic testing and it came out normal I had some things on my anatomy scan that they sent me to maternal fetal medicine specialist for but after meeting with them the specialist said the ultrasound is only 60% effective at detecting certain issues where as the blood test is 99% effective so in my case the things they were seeing weren’t as big of a deal because I already had my genetic testing done. It’s up to you if you want more peace of mind
