Baby acne?

I keep seeing pictures of baby acne vs CMPA rash but they are absolutely no help. I’m asking here because my LO is colicky, struggles to poo (but when he does it’s diarrhea) and now his face looks like this? The GP has fobbed me off twice now (two different doctors) both just giving him a different laxative and telling me to keep him on it when everywhere I read, even on the label, says infants can’t have it for more than a week straight.

Is it only on babies cheeks? Is it the same all the time or does it flare up at certain times in the day?

@Emma-louise Only on his cheeks. He did have a little rash below his belly button but that went and didn’t come back. This one looks better usually at night, he sleeps about 4-5 hours without a feed then when I wake him up for one I notice it’s not that bad, then the next morning it’s always flared up again. It didn’t look like this 2 hours ago, before his feed

On top of this he’s vomiting after almost every feed and always fusses with the bottle in his mouth. Again, I was told that was normal and nothing to worry about but I’m not sure.

@Emma-louise Thank you, as soon as my partner’s home I’ll definitely try a&e. My mum’s advice was to try the GP again but really “push them for CMPA this time” 🤦‍♀️ Thank you so much though!

I’d say looks like a dairy allergy, especially with all the other symptoms and possible reflux (due to vomiting after feeds)

Both my babies have CMPA and their cheeks look exactly like that when they eat/throw up even on the most broke down baby formula they make in America. Both my babies were failure to thrive because of CMPA so it would be worth mentioning for sure. They both were on PURAMINO.

@Caroline Cox Thank you! I live in the UK so I think the formula brands are different, but I did even try switching brands and it didn’t help. It’s good to know I’m not just freaking out over baby acne though 😭 I’ll definitely mention it again

The formula we use is like a prescription formula. When we order it we have to have a prescription from the dr. But if we go to the store to buy it’s like 60$ for a 400 g can. So if we can’t afford it we can use our prescription and get it for free or WIC pays for it.

It sounds like it could be CMPA based on the symptoms. Unfortunately the GPs do try to fob mothers off so you have to be really blunt and say you think it’s CMPA because of XYZ symptoms. If they don’t agree say you’d like to trial an extensively hydrolysed formula just to see if it makes a difference. Keep pushing them as I kept getting fobbed off too and told my LG had eczema until I did all my research and told them I think she has CMPA and why. They can’t really argue with you then. Good luck x

Idk how they do it there. But here we had to bring in a poop sample of them to test so at you next apt if you think he’s got it bring a dirty poop diaper refrigerated in a bag or just the poo itself in something clean clean but still cold.
