Colostrum harvesting kit from NHS

Morning, just wanted to make us November Mama’s aware that yesterday I was told by my midwife, that at my 36 week appointment, I will be offered colostrum harvesting essentials from the NHS. I have already bought tiny syringes & breast milk storage bags as this is something that I am planning on doing. I don’t know if all NHS trusts offer the same (hopefully they do- I’m in Surrey). I wanted to share this as I was quite surprised & had already bought the stuff for it.

I got told by some breastfeeding support nurses (I work at a hospital and they just happened to have a stand out in the entrance one day) that there is more awareness of support in this area these days and they're starting to offer more guidance and give kits out. Definitely something that has changed even since I had my first 4 years ago. I've got a midwife appt on Monday and I'm going to ask about it 😊🤞🏻

With my 1st the midwife gave me a bunch of syringes to collect the colostrum. Hopefully it’s the same this time around x

We get given a kit in Lincolnshire

We got them at 34 weeks. I will be ordering some more to be delivered next week as we only get 4 little syringes. Although this has apparently changed this week and now also get some little collection cups with it but I already had mine so I will just get a little kit.

Here in Manchester they said they no longer provide them and we need to buy them online x

I got one in Southampton, so I just assumed I would get one in Newcastle. I'll check with my midwife though. Thanks!

My midwife told me I have to buy them online but I emailed our infant feeding team at the hospital who helped me with latch issues for my first baby and she’s posted lots out to me for free :-)
