Male nursery workers

Does your child’s nursery have male workers ? Our LB’s nursery has 4 male workers who are all lovely, and my son has gone through stages of being quite attached to a few of them, following them around wanting to play etc. I was talking to an old friend yesterday who is looking at nurseries for her LO now, and she said she absolutely would not choose a nursery who had male workers, it’s weird and their definitely peados etc. I just didn’t realise people thought this way ? I get it’s not a typical ‘male job’, but what is nowadays ? It never crossed my mind that it was weird !

It's not common but I wouldn't consider it weird! There have been documented instances of women abusing children in nurseries so I really think the sex of the workers makes no difference. I see how muc enjoyment my partner gets from spending time with his son, why wouldn't it be the same for other men? Your friend is the one with weird ideas here. I'd be more than happy for my son's nursery to have male workers :)

There is a male worker at the nursery my son goes to, and I think it is wonderful.

Its a bit of an old fashioned opinion where all childcare jobs where for women and if a man wanted to do it he was a wrongun. Nowadays we know wronguns are more equal opportunity between men and women. But more importantly, men are just as capable of being great nursery workers as women and often LOs get on really well with them and it helps build diverse socialising skills to have both genders looking after them.

We had a male worker at my daughter’s nursery and he was amazing. He done lots outdoors with the kids compared to the others and they all loved him. It’s sad that people have these thoughts. They’ll end up just raising their kids to be opinionated and sexist as they get older if that’s the kind of conclusions they jump to!

Would you fly on a plane with a female pilot? I would, without even blinking. Equality works for both ways, accepting females in male traditional roles and males in female tradicional roles. My son's nursery has a male worker and they all love him. I wish they had more!

Women can be pedophiles also, people with that mentality makes it harder for males in childcare to get work 😴 I think all nurseries should have male staff aswell as women just like any other job, as it shows the children a positive male role model outside of their household and family members it also shows them that males can be nurturing etc aswell as women. Also from working in nurseries children tend to gravitate a lot to the male staff members probably because it’s outside of the "norm"
