Newborn bathing

Hi, my son is 18 days old. His cord fell off by 7 days old and I’ve been bathing him every other day, how often should you bath a newborn? Can I bath him everyday? I don’t want to irritate his delicate little skin by doing it everyday and I’m really unsure. Some people have told me once a week but that seems insane to me (no judgement to those who do, each to their own) In my head it feels like it should be daily because they are in nappies, and we naturally wash our self every day!

Mainly top and tail with water and cotton wool but if I was bathing a newborn it's sometimes easier than top and tail cleaning I'd just use water and not for a long time just a quick wash in the bath but no baby wash etc my 2 are now 7&4 they got bathed a few times a week with just water x

Once a week is fine for the first month. I was told this at the NICU. No baby wash, just Luke warm water and cotton wool on the areas that get dirty. If you think about it they don't sweat and have very sensitive skin 💕

It’s good to let their natural skin oils develop over time, daily washing would wash them off. You clean their nappy area with a wet wipe so they are not dirty.

Advice is generally no need to bathe for the first 7-10 days and no products for the first 4-6 weeks. I bathe my 3 month old every 2-3 days but i wipe under his neck and areas where milk may have leaked to every day. There's no need to bathe baby everyday it's not good for their skin as you're removing natural oils and plus they don't sweat like we do so no need x

On the nhs website it does say you can bath a newborn every 2-3 days after the cord falls off so what you’re doing is great. We bath our little girl every 3 days or so

@Lemees thank you, I do the same. Always wiping face necks and collar bones as well as bottom with nappy changes. Think in my head just associate a bath as been clean so I been struggling with the fact they don’t need it like we do! 🤣 x
