Separation anxiety.

Hi, desperately need some advice. Our family had just gone away on holiday for a week. I mean they left an hour ago. We’ve been asked to watch the dog. We live with him so he knows us and sees up so he’s not just been dumped with a complete stranger. Thing is he’s really attached to my brother in law who watches him primarily as he’s mostly his dog. And he’s freaking out. It’s like 4 am and I’m sat on the landing trying to comfort him. I’ve got my two girls in bed asleep and he’s running around like a mad man. He’s crying, and I mean he was lying next to me on the landing literally crying. But I’ve no idea what to do. I’ve got no sleep, sitting here trying to calm him down. I just need some advice on how to make him more comfortable for the week.

Does he do this when he goes out normally? It maybe isn’t separation anxiety. Could be stomach ache. For separation anxiety, I’d try a bed in your room with a jumper or blanket that smells of your brother in law. And a longer walk in the evening to tire him out.

@Molly He’s yes the same when it goes out. He spent all night crying and searching the house

My dog is a little anxiety ball. He struggled with the baby and in general. The best thing I bought was a calming collar from pets at home. It’s expensive but worth every penny. I tried loads of different products and only collar would work.

@Jagoda is it called a calming collar?

@Jagoda See I totally would get one. But he’s not my dog and I just don’t have the money to be spending on something for a dog that’s not mine and will only will be used for a week. It just doesn’t seem doable.
