Small babies

Does anyone know if smaller percentile babies are more likely to be early , on time , or late? Just out of interest! At 20w scan my baby was 10th percentile. I got a growth scan today (first scan I’ve had since 20w) as bump was measuring a little small, and he’s perfectly healthy , 15th percentile so just a little one 🙂 bit strange as I’m quite tall myself but hey Assuming no other complications do you think this means anything regarding when he might arrive? 😊

My baby was born 9th percentile 3 weeks early (even though he was 7lb🤔) under 10th they usually want to induce you but as your baby’s 15th I don’t think they will so really baby could literally come anytime!

The percentiles are calculated of our own individual measurements so 15th percentile for you could be 30th or higher for someone else. My baby is on 97th percentile for me but I seen someone post the same weight was 70th for them. I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think there's much correlation between size and when they are born apart from maybe in regard to needing intervention due to extremely small babies or extremely large.

It all depends how he keeps growing along the same curve or if it drops My baby was on 8th, then 12th, then back on 8th and latest scan at 33w he was on 5th so they said they ll make a decision at the next scan at 36weeks and they may advise he should come out earlier if restricted growth (having a planned c section) xx

Have you been taking aspirin for this? I was told at my 20 weeks scan my baby was at 42 percentile and then in my recent 32 weeks he went down to just under 30 percentile. I don’t know what to say but the sonographer said it was all good. So I’m not sure tbh. I don’t think she checked the graph either. It was all rushed.

@Caroline yeh except I have no more scans! This was a one-off bcos midwife felt bump was a lil small. I don’t generally get any scans or monitoring 🙁

@Nasra no I’ve not been told to take aspirin and apparently placenta looks to be working fine ?

My placenta was checked and it appears fine too. I was still advised to take aspirin daily until 36 weeks.

My baby was born on the 8th centile at 5lb 6oz, she was breech and had restricted growth, so I had a planned csection date booked but my ‘cervix started softening’ at 37 weeks so I ended up with an unplanned csection because it was too dangerous to send me home (in case I ended up moving further into a natural labour). Obviously everyone’s case would be different but I don’t think the size of baby would have too much of an impact as to when they arrive, some people’s bodies just birth babies earlier and others later, but the centiles are all personalised to each person so he may be smaller on your charts as you’re a taller person!☺️x
