How often does your baby poo on hydrolysed formula?

My 4 month old is only pooing once every 4 days. He seems really uncomfortable in the days leading up to his poo and when he finally goes it’s a big explosion. Is this normal? Is it just his body getting used to the formula?

Could be that he is still reacting to the milk in the formula, especially if he is having explosive nappies and being uncomfortable. How are the rest of his symptoms and how long has he been on the formula?x

@Julia he has only been on this formula for a week and a half but he was another hydrolysed formula before. His symptoms have always just been reflux, sickness, excess gas and tummy ache. None of this has changed. On the previous hydrolysed formula he was pooing every other day. It’s only since being on this one that his poos are every 4 days

My baby pooped at least once a day on hydrolysed formula, sometimes twice, however she's now on amino acid formula and it's only once a day. I'd be concerned if only pooping every 4 days! This suggests baby needs amino acid formula

Yeah I think baby needs an amino acid based formula if none of the symptoms have improved. My little girl was Pepti 1 for a week and it was horrendous she was pooing every 7 days and she ended up on Neocate and movicol and she’s a different baby. Pooing everyday (with the help of movicol) and her symptoms have all gone x

@Julia did u find that your baby was quite sicky for the first couple of weeks on Neocate? As my girl has been on it for just over a week and is quite sicky at the min

It really depends on the consistency of the poo and obviously every baby is different It could be baby getting used to the new formula but could also be baby needs a new formula Which formulas have you tried? We are on neocate with gaviscon and movicol daily Sometimes she will poo on day 3 and then have 2 poos Most of the time its every 2 days but sometimes she goes daily so that's her norm

@Emma-louise he was on aptamil pepti and now SMA Althera. The paeds have refused to change his milk again as he is now gaining weight. They weren’t concerned about his poo but I’m just not sure it’s normal to go 4 days?! It’s not hard or anything when he does go so he’s not constipated 🤷‍♀️

Problem is both if those milks contain the same 1 protien It can be normal for babies to go up to a week I believe aslong as its not hard You could try dentinox or.something to help with the wind pain etc but even trying to ask for nutramigen as its a different protien

@Rebecca I did yeah. I think it’s just because of how thin it is. My little girl got used to it fairly quickly but you can always use a thickener in it as well if baby is struggling with how watery it is x
