Screaming when feeding.

Anyone else’s little one screams when they feed? It’s only been the last few weeks, some days he’s ok and others it happens every feed during the day. He’s settled during the night and feeds well without screaming, it gets worse as the day goes on usually from just before dinner time. We’re trialling no diary as they think he might have CMPA but I’m not convinced. He does have reflux so I sit him up as much as he’s comfortable to do so during feeds but he still screams. I give infacol before feeds too and resorted to gripe water as well but he’s not really releasing much wind so I don’t think it’s likely to be that too? We’ve tried giving him his new formula with a bottle but he now refuses bottles 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t know what to do to help him.

Sounds a lot like mine and his is wind/reflux. It's horrible to see them go through it and feel so helpless! I cut dairy for a week and his poos were awful in that time. Very watery and had green specks in it. Introduced it again and his poos have returned to normal. We've just started adding thickener to expressed bottles or formula (just started combi feeding as I can't keep up with his appetite) to see if that helps the reflux.

@Libby it’s really hard cos sometimes he’ll feed really well sitting then others he screams. I’ve had 2 lots of screaming during feeds this afternoon but then the last one he was fine. It’s really strange. I wish he would drink from a bottle cos I can use his prescribed formula to help his tummy issues but he just bites the teat and refuses to drink it or he’ll take an ounce if that. I just feel so helpless and overwhelmed when he’s so upset and distressed cos I can’t help him and I know he’s making his tummy aches worse by screaming. I’m hoping it settles down soon but l am not hopeful x

@Yasmin oh sweetie I can totally sympathise ❤️ yesterday was one of my worst days, I felt like everything I did was hurting him and honestly wanted to run away from it all and leave him with his dad who seems more able to help his pain than me. What bottles are you using? She is the prescribed formula thicker so you might need a slightly faster flowing teat? We've got 3 types of bottles here and he seems much better on the mam teats than the tommee tippee or advent ones.

@Libby that’s exactly how I feel. We also have witching hour although it last for 1-3 hours where he’ll feed but then scream on and off until he’s either full enough or goes to sleep. we’ve been using MAM bottles, he won’t even use them to take medicine anymore xx

@Yasmin I got to see the infant feeding team yesterday and they stopped me chasing my tail and we're working on just the reflux for now which they think is causing all the pain. I think the first thing you need to do is find a bottle he'll take as that will make everything else easier. It's odd that he's ok at night if it's reflux as that's usually when it's worst.

@Libby yeah that’s what I thought too I’ve been recommended a lady who might be able to help with feeding support so I think we’re going to try that and see what she thinks xx
