As in, is there enough? Are you talking rear facing?

Not needed. If your carseat is installed and positioned correctly they shouldn't have chin to chest. Head going to the side is absolutely safe as it doesn't cut off their airway. ONLY use what comes with your specific carseat as it's been crash tested.

@Tess as in, is it needed for little ones that are front facing

@Chrissy not even needed if a toddler is front facing?

Are you sure they should have flipped already? That tells me that they don't have trunk control

@Chrissy yes! We had talked with his doctor about it before switching. He’s exceeded the height limit and my LO is super frustrated with how his legs bent when rear faced, so we also switched his carseat to a new Graco, front facing.

I'm sorry if I'm not understanding, he went from an infant carrier to a convertible? He most likely still needs to rear face as you need to follow your new car seats requirements. If he's slumping and you feel like he needs more support the recline rear facing will help with that. Pediatricians are great but the vast majority aren't car seat trained so if you have questions it's best to go to them.

Or maybe his head tilts alot because of my car. I have a Honda Accord

Okay so just because he outgrew the infant carrier it doesn't mean he needs to immediately go forward facing. I'd try switching him back to rear facing and see if it fixes the issues you're seeing, because again the angles are different for forward and it may be pushing him up too much before he's truly ready. It's the slumped head that is worrying more than tilted head. No shame in extended rear facing as it truly is safer.

How old? When you switch to a convertible seat they should still be rear facing as they are most likely less than 2 years old. And head support wouldn’t be an issue at that age. Definitely never add anything that didn’t come with the seat! At some point after age 2 (at the earliest) they can then be switched to forward facing while still in the convertible car seat. (It’s called a convertible seat because it coverts from rear face to forward face and will last several years.)
