Cervical Checks

I’m a first time mom and just had my first cervical check done at 36 weeks and 2 days. I could not do the pain of it and the doctor couldn’t check dilation. I’ve had the Pap smear and strep B that hurt but more just discomfort pain. Anyone else in this predicament? What did you do how did you get through it? I cannot do the pain and am thinking about denying any further checks.

I'm personally surprised they checked you that early. Any time I've ever been checked in pregnancy, I was full term or close to it. You can absolutely deny checks in the future. Honestly, the only time I would personally want to be checked is around full term. And even then, it's not totally necessary.

I’m refusing checks until we are in active labor unless we are headed over 41 weeks. I know I have feeling in my cervix. Some people may not.

You can refuse checks completely. They don't tell you anything prior to being in active labour, and even then a good delivery nurse/midwife should be able to tell if you're ready to push (if you're unmedicated and able to feel where baby is).

I’m also refusing checks until active labor. They don’t necessarily predict much this early on. Just remember, you have the right to decline

I had my first check done at 36 weeks and 2 days also and I was 1cm but it was sooooo painful like I was not expecting it to be that bad but oh my god! I am so scared to get checked again I came in for my 37 week on Wednesday and I chose not to get checked cause I was so scared and my doctor told me that it will hurt less if I jusy wait to get checked until I am farther along and he will be farther down and my cervix will be closer so I’m hoping that when I get checked next week it won’t be as bad but I say don’t get checked for you next and just wait until you are closer
