RSV vaccination

Just a heads up to all the pregnant mommas out there. If you are planning on getting the new RSV vaccination for pregnant women keep in mind that it's only for women in the gestational age of 34-36 weeks. My doctor never told me that there was a cut off on when I could receive the vaccination so I've gotta worry about my baby getting RSV after he's born. I just wanted to put that out there so no other mothers come across the same issue because the level of fear in my heart is unreal after my oldest had RSV at 6 months old and I was looking forward to thus vaccination for the safety of my child and now because I was not informed of the important information of the vaccination my son has to be at risk.

Me too! My OBGYN never informed me of the vaccine at all, she told me about the whooping cough one which I did get and the flu shot but not RSV. It makes me angry tbh to have not been given that option to protect my son.

I’m so sorry, that’s so upsetting you weren’t educated by your care team better!! ☹️😞 Is there anyway he will be eligible to receive the RSV vaccine after he’s 2 months? I thought babies who are younger than 8 months old during their first RSV season are recommended to get it??

I was able to get it but only because I knew about the vaccine from my own research and made sure to ask, otherwise they weren’t going to offer 💀 makes no sense to me since RSV is so deadly for babies and the vaccine is relatively harmless

I didn't get any of that during pregnancy if you're breastfeeding you would be just fine

@Jacinda I'm not sure. I'm going to switch doctors after my son is born and hopefully get him a better care team. Until then I'm just going to have to take extreme precautions to prevent him from getting it.

@Amber I wish I did more research on my own honestly but i didn't expect my doctor to not care the way he has. I wish I could just go back to my old doctor but that's really not an option.

@Natalia only reason I even knew it existed was because I seen a commercial on TV for it and my husband brought it up to my ob. Other than when it was released to the public I received absolutely no other information on it.

I had no idea there even was a RSV vaccine that crazy that they don’t inform you on 🙄

@Krissy only reason I even knew about it was because I seen a commercial about it on TV

@Mia I'm not able to breast feed. I didn't have the option with my oldest son so I wanted to get the vaccination this pregnancy. I usually don't stress about vaccinations but I don't mess around with RSV. I almost lost my oldest because of it and got blamed by everyone in my life saying it was my fault my oldest got it so I wanted to take every precaution imaginable for my new baby to got get it.

I was never offered the vaccine. My baby was just given the vaccine by her pediatrician today.

@Krissy it’s pretty new, it’s only been offered for a year or two, but since RSV is so dangerous you’d think they’d try to roll it out to everyone as soon as possible

@Amber it just barely started being offered in pharmacies in September here in my town.

It’s a new vaccine. And tbh what were babies and moms doing before the vaccine. Not all babies will get rsv so find some comfort that you will probably be fine xx I know you have had a previous experience but not all babies will get rsv xx

@Suzie I understand that not every baby gets it but I don't want to take chances. I tried everything to prevent my oldest from getting it and still got blamed that I didn't do enough for my child to prevent it. I don't want to experience the social backlash again let alone what my baby went through while in hospital. It was terrifying. You never know if the baby will get it and I'm really not wanting to take chances either.

My doctors offering the RSV vaccine from 28 weeks? Is that wrong z

I’m not sure if this is just the UK but the RSV vaccine is being offered at 28 weeks onwards and has been authorised for use from this gestation

@Skye the pharmacist told me it's only available to pregnant woman who are 34-36 weeks

@Megan according to what I was told from the pharmacist I think it may just be the uk that is offering it like that. Which makes me question America big time.

This vaccine should be more talked about!! The only reason I knew about it was because CVS sent me a message saying it was time to get my update Covid and flu shot and add the new RSV vaccination 🫠
