@Julia The thing is, I ask them questions daily lol My son doesn’t answer my questions. He may say a word like “toy” or “eat” but if i ask him how was his day, he will not respond. He is getting better at pronouncing words but I’m completely in the dark unless the teacher tells me or id have to ask, which feels like I’m pulling teeth sometimes. It’s the same repetitive questions everyday. You would think she would have the answers for me before I ask. Do you ever talk to the paras about your child’s days?

@Christina I really like this response. I have yet another meeting with the principal and teacher and I’m really trying to gather my notes so I make it very clear of my expectations for my child. We have a daily notes paper that is pretty vague so a communication journal sounds great! Is that what you have for your child?
@Chanel I agree that is very vague because it doesn’t break down what he is doing for the day. I also have a Kindy on an IEP and in his IEP I’ve made it mandatory that they provide a detailed home communication journal as he takes OT speech and PT so I need to know all the things! I set it up at the initial IEP meeting and it took some tweaking to get them to actually do it, but it is helpful. As someone recommended, definitely look into an IEP advocate and have them sit in his next IEP meeting if necessary. I’ve had to do it only once for it to sink in that I need communication. It’s a shame you have to be this aggressive to get your child the services they need, but it’s unfortunately necessary. I do have a group on here called Baltimore Bmore Inclusive that I’ll place more resources and tools on if that will help. I have a preschooler with speech delay and recently diagnosed autistic. I don’t ask them questions daily but my child’s teacher uploads pictures a few times a week which helps me prompt him with questions and he is able to talk more. Whenever my son has an issue I do email them. I do probably check in more than others though. Like for example I’ve noticed in pictures he’s got his coat on all day (even outside in 85 degrees). So I’ve asked a few times to have them prompt him. You can also ask them to let you know if…x,y,z happens.
