Heartbeat ?

Hi all! Had 12 week scan today- was expecting to hear baby’s heartbeat but sonographer said that this wasn’t usual practice and they advised against this due to possible harm to the baby.. she said the same for 20 weeks and would need to specifically request this. Maybe I’m missing something!

My midwive said would hear the heartbeat at my 16 week app with her! Dont think they do it with ultrasounds :)

@Elizabeth interesting ! Good to know x thanks

What? I heard mine on 13 weeks with uktrasound, something is wrong here with your midwife

They might be different trusts do it different idk

I think this depends on the trust! We heard ours with our first, but my friend who lives in a different area was told they couldn’t

Interesting!! Thanks guys

Didn’t hear mine at the 12 week scan but in previous pregnancy I’ve heard it at my 20 week scan. They sometimes listen to it at your 16 week midwife appointment but not always.

I dont think the nhs let you hear the heartbeat on scans at all in most hospitals, only with the Doppler at midwife appointments. With my son I must have had 20 nhs scans and even at the fetal medicine unit they didn’t let me hear the sound but there was a trace of it on the screen so I could see the fluctuations. Xx

Thanks all. Bit confusing how there’s different information!

I heard babies heartbeat at my 12 week scan. That’s a load of rubbish, it does not harm the baby!

@Holly I’m not sure why she’d that!! Made me feel silly for askin

I think it’s different for different trusts, I’ve never heard a HB at a scan unless it was private but heard it on the Doppler with my midwife from 18 weeks
