Stinky hair, using coconut oil for cradle cap

Little one is 7 months and has mild cradle cap. Never thought about treating it, as she has gorgeous hair and it never bothered her. So last night for some reason I decided to try using coconut oil before bath. We never used any products for bath, just breastmilk. She had her bath and I’ve noticed her hair smelled horrible, like sick smell! It was greasy as well, never looked so bad before. I realised I haven’t washed all the oil out and after looking online I bought Weleda shampoo today and used that to wash her hair. I used shampoo twice and scrubbed with my fingers. Smell seemed to have disappeared, until I brushed her hair and it stinks! Cradle cap has shifted and her hair is soft as usual, but the smell is so bad! Has anyone had this before, what do I do? I don’t want to use any chemicals.

Coconut oil smells horrible when it’s been left, I’ve had to bin baby hairbrushes cos of it lol. It’ll eventually go after a few washes.

@Payten omg yes! We’ve been gifted Frida hair brush at our baby shower and I always loved using it and now brush stinks too! 😭 I’ve tried washing it, but smell comes back after brushing hair and I have thought about getting a new brush now, but need to get rid of the smell from the hair before I ruin another brush 😭

The brush will be putting the smell back into the hair as you’re washing it cos the oil will stick to the brush! Bin it and buy a baby comb, scrub the comb after every use and then when the smell is gone treat her to a new brush! It’s such a pain isn’t it 😂 we ended up using dentinox shampoo and the frida mom cradle cap kit and it was a godsend!!

@Payten she is definitely getting a new brush, once the smell is gone 😂 I was just looking at Frida cradle cap brush set, but would it not make it smell bad too? Also found a silicone brush and comb for £5 on Amazon, so not sure if to get that one as it seems exactly the same. Weleda shampoo seems to have helped, so I’m looking at other shampoos too, but want to try Weleda one again tomorrow with the silicone brush and a comb. Just not sure whether to go with Frida set or cheeper one, as I do love Frida brush that we had, just don’t want to pay £15 for the cradle cap brush set and then end up throwing it away too.
