Stained uniform

My son is the same and thing is the way I think about it is aslomg as you know the uniforms washed then never mind what the school say x

Absolutely not! I think there’s a massive difference between it being unwashed, and it being washed and clean but with a stain or mark. We only replace his uniform once he’s outgrown it, or in one case because he cut a huge hole in his T-shirt with scissors 🙄 You’re fine, like you say it’s unrealistic and unnecessary to replace every item for every stain. If it’s really bothering you, talk to the teachers - explain as you’ve said above and I’ll bet they’ll reassure you and tell you it’s absolutely fine.

Wash the whites in ace of whites and anything else I just cover the stain in fairy and then soak in boiling hot water and then wash accordingly

my daughter is the same she come out with mud all over her self they know what children are like we cant be spending more money on new clothes uniforms is expensive as it is if it was ripped i understand but they are 4/5/6/7 year old i soak her in power over night mix of hoy and cold water gets the stains out come out looking new i even have second hand clothes that i got off friend and vinted aswell some have mark the top but i put pinfold dress on you cant see it

My daughter is the same and used to come home covered, she’s getting slightly better now. She goes to school in slightly stained items if I can’t get them out, I find yellow paint is the worst to get out but like you can’t afford to go out buying new uniform on a weekly basis 😂x

I’m a teacher and I must reiterate the fact that there is a difference between washed and not washed. We’re only a few weeks into term and already my son has stained school tops from pen markers - I still put him in them. You can’t replace every item that gets pen/paint on them or else you’d be constantly buying/replacing uniform and no one has time for that! No teachers I know are concerned by that - it’s the dirty clothes we’re concerned about: students coming in with the same food marks after days and days of wearing the same item. You’re fine, don’t worry! X

When my boy was in reception I was replacing his stained clothes all the time in fear someone would think he was being neglected lol. Now he’s in year one he comes out with paint and pen stained clothes nearly every day I’ve given up and If I was replacing them it would be costing so much money each month which I don’t have due to being on mat leave. I like that it’s winter as he can cover up with a jumper (it’s dark navy blue) 😹

I’m doing more washes now because everyday her uniform is covered. I’ve only got two jumpers and two cardis so not enough to cover everyday if they get mucky. Most stains come out, some definitely don’t. And the mess she’s in sometimes at the end of the day, I fully think teachers understand that kids get messy. It’s normal and healthy that they do - that shows they’re playing and exploring. Yesterday my daughter clearly had fun exploring a puddle so came out in her pe kit as her uniform was drenched! I’ve not read the article but I assume they mean unwashed uniforms rather than just with some stains or marks, there’s a big difference.

I don't know what paint my daughters school uses but that never comes out no matter what I do. X

I send my kid into school in stained clothes, they're 5 years old! If they're going to be given pens and paint they should be given aprons to wear as well!

Maybe if their food and pens didn’t have the most stubborn stains to take off we would be able to send our kids to school in what looks like brand new uniform. My daughter brand new t shirts have food stains all along her sleeves and then another with a big black pen mark, bleach soak over night and stain remover couldn’t even take it out. Her jumpers and cardigans all have pen marks which again won’t come out. It’s soo frustrating.

I think they mean when it’s clearly unwashed and dirty, as opposed to being stained. Teachers can tell the difference between stained and washed clothes, compared to dirty/unkempt clothes - and it’s those ones that they are concerned about x

Personally I won’t send my kids into school with stained clothes. Multipacks of polo shirts can be brought for £3/4. Skirts, trousers etc less than £10 for a pack of two in Morrisons, Tesco etc. That being said, I’d never look at a stain on someone else’s child’s uniform and judge. If you know your kids clothes are clean and your children are taken care of, do not worry x

The early years lead at our school said that if your kid hasn’t got stains on their uniform then they haven’t had a good time 😂

Oh you are totally fine! I swear my daughter comes home every day looking like she’s been dragged through I don’t know what. Please don’t worry - I do think that’s more about the general notion of persistently dirty v stained?xx

I wouldn’t worry, the report was much more about children arriving at school in an unhygienic state, like dirty clothes, unwashed hair, unbrushed teeth etc - it was more to point out that some parents sadly don’t have money for basic things these days like washing powder, toothpaste, shampoo etc. sad 😔 xxx

Exactly the same! Brand new uniform with marker pen stains on the jumper. Really irritated me! If the school don’t make sure the kids are wearing protective aprons or whatever whilst they’re doing these arts and crafts then I’m not going to be replacing! Like you say it’s far too expensive😩 x
