Child care cost

I'm just curious what other moms would expect to pay or be paid. If you drop your 4 year old, who is still potty training off, with a packed lunch, at a family members' house daily, how much are you paying them per hour? If you agreed to watch your niece or nephew daily for 2-8 hours, Monday- Friday, what's the price you're agreeing to? For consideration: Their parent packs them a lunch, but if they see your kid eating anything they want some too and they're still potty training.

I offered my brother in law $50 a day up to 3 (full) days per week in NY (not NYC). Not sure if that helps. I would ask her what her budget is before giving a number. But also research your area. Around me, full time for a 2yo is about $250 which is where I got the number, but he is only accepting $50 a week because he's very generous. Fwiw!

So I'm not wrong for thinking less than $6 an hour is crazy right? Like that's what's being offered/negotiated, when my area babysitting is $12-$30 an hour. Like, I don't want to be rude or unreasonable, but that's not even minimum wage in my area.

The normal hourly rate for 1 child being watched it 21-27 an hour.

12-30 is normal but imo it needs to be higher than 12. I’m a CNA & refuse to do under $20/hr. That’s me. I might take around 12 an hour if it’s really no biggie and just extra income, but not necessary. 15ish if I could use it, but I’m not desperate and bc it’s family or close friend. But if I know your kid gonna be a lil stressful or the extra food to give everyday & activities is gonna weigh on me, minimum $17 & that’s again for close family or friend. Ive done this twice before for 2 different babies tho so if you want hardcore numbers and reasons, dm me with the question again and I’ll look through my old stuff when I’m off work.

I'm saying daycare rates. You'll never get a "fair" wage paid for having one child in daycare because typically there are a handful of kids, and combined it pays the income. For my niece or nephew I wouldn't expect top dollar because I'm doing family a favor. It's perfectly fair to ask for more based on babysitting rates but I personally think it's unreasonable to expect. Good luck though!
