Long haul with Qatar

Hi all! May be a bit niche but has anyone flown long haul (UK-AUS) with Qatar? Im confused because we booked with BA but flight is Qatar. My LO is under 2 but we’ve paid for a seat under the impression his luggage was the same as an adult with 2 extras eg pram/car seat but Qatar don’t allow this, and unsure on his hand luggage. (I asked on twitter/X and I got a response from two reps with different answers on whether he is entitled to hand luggage 🙄) Does anyone have experience with flying with them with a little one? Thanks!

Yes. We fly Qatar to Brisbane all the time. BA and Qatar are both in the one world alliance so they coshare planes. You’ve paid for a seat as an infant fare he gets the hand luggage, baby items and checked luggage. If you have a baby ticket it’s just the baby items and a carry on baby bag. I flew first with her on my lap, booked the bassinet all the way which is amazing. I had my hand luggage and her changing bag loaded with 2 flasks of boiling water, 8 empty bottles and formula tabs. I was packed to the hilt!

@Sarah really? When I’ve asked them they said I will have to pay extra to take a pram. On the app it says he’s infant with only checked luggage, but we did pay for the seat. One rep on X told me he doesn’t get hand luggage, and one said he does! Thank you for your help! I feel more hopeful that I can take a pram 😂

We take the pram every time but we have the yoyo which goes onboard in the overhead. Makes the transfer at Doha super easy! Just make sure at check in you remind them he has a paid seat and luggage. They might not realise thinking he’s under 2 and you wouldn’t have bought a seat. The Qatar flights to oz are chocka with families too so you’ll see so many prams boarding 😊 Yeah, even when we didn’t get a seat for her we would take a pram and a travel cot. The change bag isn’t technically hand luggage, it’s also medically exempt and not weighed so just wear it as your carry on handbag. Basically “hand luggage” is a wheel case for the overhead but a carry on is a bag that’ll go under the seat. They don’t weigh it, count it and don’t care if liquids are over 100ml. It’s a medical need for travelling with a tot. Just be aware you redo security at Doha but it’s a good airport to do a reset for the next leg. Super nice airline, great planes too and kid friendly xx

Hi Ciara, flying with Qatar will actually be much nicer than BA in my opinion! You don't normally have to pay for the pram but have you tried calling them for reassurance? They do have a UK number for customers and if you really can't get anywhere with that try the assistance line.

@Shiv thank you, I have found the whole process rather stressful so far with so much conflicting information! I have phoned and they informed me I can take a stroller, my partner also asked on live chat and told we cannot take it 🫣 I give up at this point 😂

I would probably go by the phonecall. But you could ask the person on the phone to email you this information so you have it for reference.
