Low lying placenta

We had our 20 week scan today and are so happy our miracle baby girl is healthy🩷 They did tell me my placenta is quite low down, so I'm to have another scan at 30 weeks to check it has moved. I'm feeling really anxious as she said the low lying placenta can cause bleeding. Has anyone else been told they have a low placenta and feeling similar?

Hiya! I had the same and had an internal scan after and it was partly covering my birth canal, I went back at 32 weeks and it had moved all the way to the top! 9 times out of 10 it’ll move up! If you have any bleeding etc go straight to triage I was told but I was absolutely fine! X

I had a low lying placenta with my last baby, I did not have any bleeding and it had moved up totally by the 30 week scan. It's really common and most of them do move up.

I’ve been told I have a low lying placenta and I have to go back at 32 weeks for a scan

Omg had my scan yesterday and same thing! Just trying to work out what exercises I can do, they said swimming is OK but restrict myself otherwise...

Had my 20 week scan today too and was told exactly the same thing. Definitely have been feeling anxious but it’s really reassuring reading some of these comments ❤️

The sonographer said it isnt completely low lying but it is on the lower side and if it doesnt move may mean c- section, which I'm fine with. Just hope it moves up on it's own. @Jenny They didnt mention anything at all to me about restricting exercise. I'm on my feet 7 hours a day for work so hope that doesnt affect things. And do a bit walking in free time x

@Amy well they said not to do more than I already do. So I'm sure you'll be fine. No moving heavy boxes or very physical things really. And not to increase my exercise in any way which is really annoying cus I was about to go the gym n look at specific pregnancy exercises 😒

Yep the same, not covering but very close too, another scan booked to 32 weeks :)

@Jenny ah okay thats reassuring then, I work in a care home but havent been doing lifting or using hoists or anything since I found out I was pregnant so should be all good, just taking it as easy as I possibly can. And enjoy a wee walk on my days off as I couldnt just sit about😂 Aww that is annoying, I think pregnancy yoga is meant to be good as quite gentle if thats something that interests you. @Grace I agree, I was very anxious and I feel very reassured with everyones experiences. Thank you everyone for putting my mind at ease❤️

I had this with my first pregnancy, I went for another scan at 32 weeks and all was fine, had no bleeding throughout pregnancy at all. They tell you so you can phone triage so they can check you out but honestly 9 out of 10 times as baby gets bigger your placenta does move out of the way. A low lying placenta is more common than you think

I had the same thing at mine on Monday. They didn’t tell me not to exercise but because I read about it, I rang the midwife yesterday and she confirmed I can only do mega light stuff which I’m going to really struggle with as I do CrossFit 😞 I am really anxious too but reading this has reassured me, fingers crossed we are all okay xx

They said the same to me and that I may need a c section (I’m not keen as had a great birth first time). I’m really hoping it moves! I always had some blood a few weeks back but it was brown and they warned me it could happen, I didn’t worry too much about it x

Thanks for sharing this Amy, I had the same too as my 20 week scan on Monday! Going back for a scan at 34 weeks to see if it moves. Turns out my mum had the same with me 30 years ago and hers moved and people I’ve spoken to say it more than likely moves. Didn’t know this about exercise though!
