No energy to workout

I am 9 weeks postpartum with baby #2 and I am struggling to get back into a workout routine. Pre-pregnancy I did Burn boot camp about 4-6 days a week and I saw great results and felt great. I did workout about 3-4 days a week during my pregnancy until about 33 weeks. I started going back to working out at 6 weeks postpartum and I have yet to be able to workout more than 2 days a week because I am exhausted! My baby isn’t sleeping through the night so I am too tired to go to the morning camps and by the time I can go to the later classes I’m exhausted after chasing around my toddler all day. How do you mamas find the energy to workout? I think once I can get some decent sleep it’ll get easier but there’s no telling when that is going to be.

My baby sleeps well and I still struggle to workout more than 2x a week! I used to workout daily, even up to the day I gave birth. I am just being kind to myself and listening to my body

Living life postpartum seems like it’s more vital for us to listen to our bodies & respond in kind. Bc we are spread so thin! I don’t know when that sleep will come in… maybe in a few more years? I’m still waiting. The best advice I’d give new moms is: stay away from caffeine! You’re going to be tired all the time anyway- it’s a hopeless battle, so don’t try your adrenals.

I jam out to high-energy music while working out. I do conditioning with lifting small weights as I gradually go up in weight and then do cardio. Cardio makes me lose motivation. I also look at tiktok, and then it's motivation for me to look super hot.

Also, be kind to yourself and realize that sometimes there are seasons to do certain things according to what makes sense for your life, schedules, and needs. I didn't start working out until my kid was 2 because that's what I could personally handle given my work schedule, needs, and other priorities

Start small with walks. Once you're confident with that I'm sure you'll be back in your classes!

Personally I would change the type of exercise you’re doing, until baby is sleeping more. High impact exercise increases stress response and cortisol, AND so does being sleep deprived! Trying to do a hard workout when you’re already fatigued is just going to cause burn out and more fatigue. Try walking, yoga, Pilates. Gentle movement that gets you strong again and doesn’t contribute to burn out. Focus on nutrition and consider getting a blood test to check iron and other minerals etc.

Hi! Pre/postnatal fitness trainer here 👋 Congrats on baby 2 and that's amazing that you're returning to exercise already! That being said...phew; give yourself some grace! I hate all of the pressure women have to do all of the things and "bounce back". If you are exhausted; it is more than okay to rest! I've learned to go with the ebbs and flows of motherhood: some weeks I get in 4 days of lifting or more, others I get in 2 choppy workouts, other weeks it's just a walk Do what you can. In the beginning, more restorative exercise is super important and shouldn't leave you super gassed. I'm writing a postpartum wellness program with fitness, nutrition, pelvic floor, and community support. If you're interested, here's the survey: https://forms.gle/5t62F3AuAjZd3EpCA
