FTM To a Preemie baby

Hello moms , Just looking for some support and encouraging words. My daughter came 9/15 at 34 weeks she’s been in nicu for now 2 weeks and it’s getting harder. My postpartum is making things harder I know she’s in here for a good reason but my mind and body says it’s something missing. She was due October 27th and that’s when they said expect her to come home. I don’t know how any of you strong women can do this . I just want my beautiful baby home.

Hold strong mama. My baby girl was also born at 34 weeks. She came home before her due date but I know it’s hard to wait! your doing great and enjoy the cuddles!

I am a ftm as well! My son was born 30+2 after a 5 week hospital stay for me. He came home 36+1, exactly 11 weeks after I got admitted. We were sick of the hospital and absolutely ready to have our baby boy home. It helped knowing he was where he was supposed to be at that time to thrive, and having good nurses. Soon you’ll only remember bits and pieces of it, and have so many other great memories

@Ash thank you so much I’m trying she’s doing well but her eating is a thing we are focused on

@Kiarra I def love those cuddles wouldn’t change it for the world

sending u love mamas ❤️

My baby was born at 34 weeks and it was hard especially after I got discharged from the hospital. I think they tell you to expect them home by the due date just to not give you any false hopes of them possibly coming home earlier and then being sad about them not. My LO stayed 20days (so 3 weeks) but every child is different and in there for different reasons. I was exactly where you are 1 month ago. My baby was underweight and needing help feeding with a tube. Once he started feeding a certain amount on his own everything else just fell into place and he was home with us shortly after. Stay strong. You got this. And it may sound crazy but use this time to rest and heal because when baby comes home it’s GO time 🫶🏾💕

Feel free to message me anytime for any reason! My baby was born at 34 weeks because of preeclampsia. We stayed 33 days in the NICU. I know how hard it is to have to drive away leaving them behind with strangers. How much you feel the need to be with them 24-7. But she will come home and eventually you won't be able to remember a time when she wasn't there.

@Lalita yes she is 5lbs 4.2oz they are working on her latch and making f sure she can suck swallow and breathe before sending her home

@Emily so I found out I had preeclampsia and a UTI and kidney infection without even knowing it 😑🤦🏽‍♀️ I was in labor for 3-4 days before I had her and I honestly can’t wait for it ❤️

Hang in there mama! I had my babygirl at 27 weeks and she spent 90 days in NICU. First time mama as well. There will be some ups and downs, just take it one day at a time and lean on your support system. Reach out if you need to vent! 💕

@Altreese That's rough! For me, they started induction on a Saturday and she wasn't born until Tuesday. LO weighed less than 4lbs, made it out at 5lbs 11oz. When it happens, it happens fast

@Aupree thank you so much ❤️

@Emily yea see she came out 4lbs 10oz I didn’t even know I was in labor

For a preemie your baby way ahead! Usually 34 weeks is great. NICU is tough but you will look back and see this a such a small time in your life. Keep pushing! I know the feeling my daughter was born at 28 weeks and now is a healthy happy 6 year old.

@Cynthia thank you so much and yes she is rocking it but it still makes me sad

Stay strong, she’s beautiful! Absolutely perfect!

@Tia thank you 😊

@Altreese yea I don’t know how to explain it but these babies just wake up one day and everything clicks. Lol 😅 she’s a warrior and looks likes she’s already in a bassinet she’ll be home before you know it

@Lalita she is they moved her to the bigger room and bigger bed! She doesn’t need to be watched as much which is good

My twins were born at 34 weeks, and I know how you’re feeling. We had one come home after almost a month, and the other is still working on her eating in the ICN. It takes time, so know your baby is in the safest place. Take the time to prepare anything you didn't get to do, and I hope you can visit every day. Going back and forth is really draining but I bet your baby will be home in no time.

@Tanja thank you so much and they say she is making progress I’m very proud of her and I do know she’s in the safest place it’s just those hormones

Is she home yet? Hoping you’re doing well 🫶🏾

@Lalita no baby girl is not home yet but hopefully soon ! We noticed she’s eating better if I breastfeed her so today we are going to see her weight before and after

That’s very good! So happy y’all have that bond!

My first came at 33 weeks and my second at 35. My second got to skip the NICU but my first was there for almost two weeks. I remember after I had my first a nurse told me that her early arrival and NICU stay would be one small chapter in her story but for the first year it felt all encompassing and was the defining experience in my motherhood journey. It was unbelievably hard, especially since I had extreme PPA and some PPD. Now my oldest is two and I finally feel like the nurse was right: it was one small chapter in our book, not the whole story. Your baby girl has an amazing life ahead of her, and as monumental as it feels, this is just one small part of it.
