Cervical stitch

My cervix was measuring 41mm at 15 weeks, I just had my 20 week scan and it’s shortened by 17mm and is now measuring 24mm. I’m having the stitch tomorrow. Any positive stories? I lost my firstborn at 23 weeks and I believe it was due to my cervix shortening.

I had an emergency stitch placed at 21 weeks when my cervix was 1.8cm. Found out about it shortening by pure luck. My stitch was successful and healthy baby born at 39 weeks. It is so hard but you will be fine!! I am near certain the reason my stitch was so successful was because I dramatically reduced how much physical activity I was doing and rested as much as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to message me xxx

Also you should ask about progesterone pessaries. I was given these to use in addition to having the stitch.

I’ve been taking the pessaries since about 12 weeks but they just aren’t enough to keep my cervix closed so need the stitch to go alongside them. So nervous because I feel like I’m cramping and getting back cramps after the scan today! Scared I’m going to go into pre term labour before the op tomorrow 😫

Honestly I was the same! I was sent home on the Friday night after my 20 week scan and told to come into hospital for my operation the next morning. I never slept the whole night worrying I would go into labour during that night!

So scared! Hoping it’s just cramping after being poked and prodded and I’m just worrying 🤦🏼‍♀️

I know it can be scary, but it’s worth it. I had to get an emergency cervical cerclage at 21 weeks during my first pregnancy, and even though it was discovered late and by luck, I was able to carry my baby full term. Now, with my second pregnancy, I had a preventive cerclage at 14 weeks while my cervix was still measuring normal. Even though it has shortened a little, and I've been told to reduce activity, I feel much more reassured having it in place. I’m also using pessaries. Everything will be okay!

I had an emergency stitch placed at 21 weeks when my cervix was measuring 1.2cm. I'm pregnant with twins and just passed the 32 week mark and my stitch is holding strong! It'll be OK, I promise! The surgery is quick and easy, and it's very unlikely you'll go into labor tonight. I had a lot of cramping and was still able to get the stitch to hold in my babies.

I’m so sorry for your previous loss. I lost a babygirl at 20 weeks with no stitch. With the next pregnancy I got an emergency cerclage at 19 weeks & carried to full term. My current pregnancy I had a preventative cerclage placed at 15 weeks while my cervix was normal. I’m now 27 weeks & my cervix is still normal, I’m confident that I’ll carry close to full term again. You & baby will be fine & your surgery will be a success!!

It’s very scary! I had my stitch at 23 weeks while being 2cm dilated. The stitch was removed at 36w3d and I had my son at 40w3d. Good luck to you girlie! 🍀💚

Thank you everyone for your positive stories! Just want to get it in now for that extra layer of reassurance.

Good luck 🫶🏻

Thank you! Just waiting for the call to go in! Feels like the longest wait ever 😫

I got a cerclage for my first pregnancy with bed rest. Does anyone know for the second pregnancy if we can still move around or have to go to what extent of bed rest?

@Ritz I had an emergency Cerclage placed and I didn't have to do bed rest. You shouldn't have to do it if you have a preventative cerclage but talk to your doctor. There is no research that supports complete bed rest for short cervix.

Thanks Jenna, that’s good to know 😊
