Straining

So my baby is formula fed. He started off with enfamil then I switched him to similac because that’s all my WIC covers. Then I noticed he was straining hella hard and had a hard time pooping. So I switched him back to enfamil and he’s pooping better but he’s still straining. Like he’s straining 70% of the time he’s awake. What do I do :(

Talk to your doctor about putting prime juice in his bottles. My newborn was on enfamil from 1month to 2 months and she was always straining and super gassy. Prune juice and a warm bath always helped her (,:

How old? Might just be learning how to poop. My LO is 4mo and for the past three weeks has been straining A LOT. Even up 2-3 hours lots of nights trying to poop. Pediatrician told us if the poops are liquid and not hard then it’s not constipation but the baby is still learning to relax his butthole when bearing down. It’s not perfect but we found a routine of bicycle kicks, circular massage of the belly and then finishing with a Windii helps him move things a long. I also hold him upright between my knees in a squat position when I’m reclined back and knees up helps him sometimes too. Windii devices are expensive so I found some off brand ones on Amazon that work the same. But also, message your pediatrician!

My baby went almost 1 whole week without pooping and it was horrible for her and us! She was fussy and hated being laid down. Our dr said to feed her 1oz water and 1 iz juice for a few days a couple times a day. Worked like a charm!! Grape juice, prune juice, apple juice

How often is your baby pooping and what’s it look like?

For WIC you can have a pediatrician sign a referral form for another formula they carry.

Try switching to the sensitive one..

@Kiana he poops every day and it’s like a mustard color….he just strains a lot a lot

Then according to my pediatrician it’s not constipation, it’s the neurological function of pooping that the baby has to learn. We’re in the same dealio right now and my baby is 90% breast fed. I would speak with your pediatrician before spending a lot on changing formulas.
