Growth

Hello đź©· Having some worry around baby growth. Baby was previously on 97th percentile and I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes as a result. Went for a growth scan today and now they have said gone down to 50th percentile. I have another growth scan in 2 weeks time now. But feel so incredibly worried about it now. Has anyone been through something similar?

I don't know if this is a silly question - but if you've got your GD under control, would it not make sense if baby wasn't measuring so high on the centiles now? Not sure of time difference between the measurements? What did they say about it?

@Katie that’s a fair point actually. I didn’t think to ask that at the time cause I just panicking. I might try asking someone that about the GD being under control and so not growing excessively. And I’m not sure about the second part! They didnt mention anything about timings of measurements. I think il need to make a note of these things and ask at my next appointment!

This happened to me!! 28 and 30 weeks was 97th percentile then 32 weeks baby dropped to 50th percentile but baby didn't grow at all in 2 weeks. I was having growth scans every 2 weeks anyway but I've been sent for twice weekly monitoring starting tomorrow. I have GD too, diet controlled... but the only thing I've changed is cutting full sugar drinks and chocolate in the evenings.

@Kaylee this sounds exactly like me as well. I’m 32 weeks now too when they’ve said the baby has dropped to 50th percentile. I thought it might be because I avoid eating too much tbh because of the GD because I don’t want to cause any spikes. But she said it wouldn’t be that - Although I do need to eat properly. Hope your monitoring appointments go okay! Are they just more scans? Or is it a bit more than that x

If you want to give me a message, I can let you know what happens tomorrow. I wasn't really told what was going to happen apart from someone who was more specialised was going to do more in depth checks. My first thought was maybe I was restricting myself too much, so I've started eating more and more like my old diet just so I have a peace of mind it's not my diet that's causing it. Personally I wouldn't have been worried about them dropping percentiles, and I know 50th is still extremely healthy but it's more the fact they haven't grown at all that is concerning me. A lot of ladies with GD who take medication, the babies weight can fluctuate a lot but haven't heard of too many people being diet controlled. Try not to worry too much!! I know I'm still panicking like crazy and I found out a week ago.

@Kaylee ah yes I will drop you a message! I know it’s so hard to not worry. But I do try and think to myself if they were really concerned I’m sure they wouldn’t wait two weeks to see me again! So let’s see.🤞🏽 Yeah I’m diet controlling at the moment too. I can understand why you would be worried too. Hopefully your appointment tomorrow will give you more clarity. Xx

@Kaylee this happened to me too! glad to know I’m not the only one 🥹 also having monitoring twice a week & scans every 2 weeks!

The midwives said to me that it could be that the baby had a big growth spurt & then it’s plateaued out which can be normal or could be that the sonographer took inaccurate measurements on the first scan! I’m trying not to worry & just focus on the fact that he is healthy & happy as well as still growing! Xx

@Rhea this is reassuring. Thanks for sharing that. That makes me feel a bit better
