Early Scan

I have booked a private early scan and because I'm less than 10 weeks I just saw in the email that the scan is done transvaginally. Can anyone confirm if this hurts please and how big is the tool they use, now I'm nervous 😅 Also is this safe for the baby? I'd rather wait if it causes any risk. Edit: thank you all for the advice, feeling less nervous now. I may just ask if they can try abdominal first and if it doesn't work then try the internal way :)

It’s not painful it’s just uncomfortable, if you managed a smear test you can deffo manage this,

It's not painful, it's just uncomfortable and they will stop if you ask them to

It wouldn't even say it's uncomfortable, I had a internal to check my ovaries prior to pregnancy and they really dug around 🤣 but it didn't hurt one bit. I had a scan at 8+6 last week and declined internal for personal reasons and saw baby just fine on abdominal 🥰

Not painful and if you relax not that uncomfortable but if you are tense can be uncomfortable x

How far along will you be? I went to window to the womb yesterday and I thought I was 8+2 (measured 8+5) They did say that it is recommended under 10 weeks to be transvaginally and I asked if we could try abdominal first and if it wasn’t clear then try transvaginally and it was a really clear picture without having to go internal. I just made sure I had a good drink before hand to fill my bladder xx

I went today and they did abdominal and I’m 7 weeks but measuring smaller. I think sometimes they just have to say that’s an option. I have had trans vaginal previously and it was absolutely fine x

I had a transvaginal yesterday at 8 weeks. No pain at all, they were really nice and said if I felt uncomfortable to let them know. They found they baby and heartbeat within seconds of putting it in, so my mind wasn’t even on anything else other than the screen we could see. I was told there is no risk, and I felt fine afterwards, I did not feel any pain or discomfort at all xx

I have an external scan at 6+3! They should try external before internal

That's unusual I had an abdominal one fine at 8 weeks! They only used transvaginal scanning if you were under 6 weeks. Maybe they'll let you have a normal one

I wouldn’t say it’s uncomfortable at all! I’ve had loads and everytime has been absolutely fine
