First NHS scan

I have my 12 week scan booked for Friday (11wk 6d). I’m a bag of nerves and excitement - unsure how I’m going to get through this week! I had a private scan at 8 weeks and everything was fine so keep reassuring myself and looking back at the scan picture (plus trying to stay off Google / Tik Tok). My symptoms seem to have calmed down but I have had a terrible cold that may have been overshadowing so trying not to overthink that as well (does the overthinking ever stop???😂) Any advice or tips on what to expect at the scan??

I had mine on Saturday and felt the same despite having a previous scan one at 9 weeks. I had lost all my symptoms so was worrying but baby was absolutely fine. It’s quite a long scan (about 40 mins) as they are checking measurements, organs and looking at the nuchal translucency. They will probably take a blood test too and will give you your due date. What was really nice was how the baby had changed from looking like a peanut at week 9 to a proper baby with arms, legs, hands and feet as well as a lovely facial profile. Sadly the pictures they gave me to take home were really rubbish, so I may get a private one in the future just to have better images. But the most important thing was all was ok! Good luck :)

My symptoms pretty much all went at 9 weeks except tiredness, the tiredness stayed the whole pregnancy. I don't think the worry really ever goes. Make sure you drink lots before hand. I wad peeing like a trooper before hand. I had a horrible cold so when they ran 45 minutes late I was in tears from the pain of trying to hold my wee in. The tech went go for a wee now! Before my scan. They struggled to find baby after that but where I had drunk so much my bladder filled quickly and by the end I needed another wee 🫣🫣

I hav my scan for the same day I will also be 11wks 6dys I'm also so nervous this will be my first scan didn't have a private one with I did due to my early misscarriage of twins last year even though everything is going different this time around an I feel like everything if I've I still overthing everything just can't wait for that first scan

@Helen sorry for jumping on the post but you said your symptoms mostly went at week 9, did that include nausea? I feel like my nausea is easing for sure and wasn't sure if I'm just having a good day

I’m 21 weeks now! The overthinking definitely lessens, especially since I can feel baby moving about now! But I won’t lie, the first 3 months I was a mess with anxiety too, but it definitely gets better 🩷 I had an empty bladder at my 12w scan, if I had a full one and the tech pressed on my tummy I defo would’ve weed myself 🤣 I’ve always had an empty bladder for scans and never had any issues! I had a blood test too after the scan. When it came to my 20w scan I was more excited than anxious x

My symptoms came and went. After 18 weeks they changed, less nausea and fatigue and more back pain and boob pain again

@Emma yeah my nausea went at 9 weeks I thought at the time it was just a fluke but it stayed away. I didn't even have much food aversion either. I did worry that my lack of symptoms would be bad but I have a health 25 weeks old baby now

Baby was absolutely fine - stood on their head so we struggled to get measurements. Had to go for a walk and do star jumps to get them to move with no luck. It meant we got to see baby on screen for 30 minutes. Healthy heart beat and wriggling away xx
