Constipation? 💩

Has anyone else struggled with their baby having constipation? Our daughter was breastfed until 7 months and then we switched to formula and now on to cows milk. Since around that 7 month mark she’s really struggled with constipation. We’ve seen the gp a few times and they’ve given her different laxatives which help but we have to give them everyday and even still she’s bunged up. Wondered if anyone else has had this experience and things they found that helped!! We’ve done prunes, more fruit and veg, apple juice, more water in her diet, tried taking our gluten and eggs from her diet for a period to see if it makes it better….literally everything the gp and internet have recommended and it’s still happening 😔

Did the GP mention dairy? An allergy or slight intolerance could make her very constipated, may explain why it got bad at the 7 month mark when you swapped?

Could be a milk protein allergy x

Yes our baby has been since being on powdered milk. I asked the doctor if it could be dairy but he said she would have gone the other way. Now I’m thinking after reading this it is! We have to give her Paediatric Movicol daily or she struggles x

Mine was formula fed and switched to cows milk at 1. She's struggled for the past month, like crying/screaming when she's trying to go, I'm calling the Dr's again tomorrow cause it's getting really bad now :( x

@Laura same! Our doctor said milk issues would make her have diarrhea, but I wonder.. She’s on movicol and occasionally lactulouse as well. I’m wondering about trying lactose free milk or goats milk for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference?? It’s really horrible to see her in so much discomfort

@Mia so sorry you’re going through it as well xx

@Mia definitely ask for some Movicol! That will help loads. Mine has to have one daily or she’s in pain with it too x

@Caroline same! My boy was funny with milk when he was little too but diarrhoea so was obvious. I’ve just got her soya 1-3 milk and just making sure she has nothing with milk in it at all for now. Please let me know if you find anything that helps and I’ll update you too ☺️ xx

My boy has the same problem. Literally have to give him medicine almost everyday now 😞 he has no gluten and milk as he is intolerant, but still very struggling. He doesn’t like drinking too, literally he only has NO poo problems- if he has only vegetables and fruits for a few days ( means no snacks and anything containing rice or corn ) . Very hard !

Following as my girls had the same problem since I stopped breastfeeding and she’s had cows milk!! Went to the doctors and they gave us lactulouse but hasn’t made a difference!

We have had this problem for so long its soooo frustrating!!! It ended up being milk protein allergy so now doing yhe milk ladder to slowly intro it

My little girl has been horrific for constipation, to the point it’s caused slits, she screams every poo now from fear. We’ve been doctors, I’m under peadiactrics at the hospital with her and we’ve tried everything!! However I’ve switched her from cows milk to oat milk ( alpro growing up one) and she has had such softer poos and every day rather than every couple! Maybe it could be that xxx

@Charlie mine got given lactulouse but it’s only a stool softener so didn’t do anything. Went to doctors again today and they prescribed movicol which is a laxative so hoping it helps!!

We saw the gp this week again and she said it’s a common issue most kids will grow out of. Also spoke to a friend of ours who’s kid is now 7 and she said her son went through the same thing and they phased everything in and out of his diet but it just ended up being time that helped the issue. So our gp has set us up on a long term movicol prescription and we’ll see how we go!! It’s horrible when it’s so painful for them but it’s nice to know it’s not just us going through it. Xx
