I feel awful 😭😭

I had a C-section and baby is now 5 days old. I was given dihydracodine for 3 days and then I had some cocodamol as the pain was still really bad and I've been taking that for 2. I've now just seen that your not meant to when breast feeding and I am exclusively breast feeding! Baby showing no concerns and midwife coming tomorrow to remove my dressings so I'm going to tell her. How bad is this though?!😭😭

The issue with breastfeeding on codeine is that it can suppress breathing and make your baby drowsy. So if your baby seems ok and is feeding etc ok then try not to worry too much. It really varies how much gets into milk depending on how your body processes it, it might be that there is hardly any getting to your baby. Hopefully the midwife can reassure you tomorrow. Take care.

@Marianne thanks for your comment and being kind, but yeah he does appear absolutely fine! Hopefully I got lucky! Can't believe I didn't check first x

Alot of it would depend on when you actually took it and how soon after you fed baby ect.. codeine normally peaks in breast milk 1-2 hours after taking it and normally reduced to half the amount by 2.5 hours. If baby seems okay I wouldn't be concerned, you weren't aware but you are now and if you need more pain relief, GP can prescribe you some more dihydrocodine x
