Long bones measuring small?

I went to MFM today bc my OB office was having a hard time getting some images of the heart that they have tried to get twice since our anatomy scan. I’m 29 weeks today and I got another anatomy scan done at MFM and they said the heart is fine but that the femur and humerus bones are measuring small. Femur was 7th% and humerus bone was measuring 6th%. Has this happened to anyone else? This is my THIRD anatomy rescan at this point and my normal OB office never mentioned anything about this so I’m fairly worried. She said it could be bc I’m short (5’1) myself. It’s more common in Asian and Hispanic decent and my husband is Hispanic and 5’8. Just kind of freaking out bc he’s in the 48% overall just has shorter long bones….not sure what this could mean. We did genetic testing at 10 weeks and all came back normal as well.

I haven’t had this exact thing happen but since the genetic testing came back normal I wouldn’t be concerned. My baby had choroid plexus cysts at our anatomy scan and since the genetic testing came back normal the doctors said they weren’t concerned and it should resolve on its own. Like you said, you’re short and your husband is also on the shorter side so it’s probably just genetics!

More than likely it's because you're short. As long as their overall is still good I wouldn't worry. He may just be a bit short when he comes out.

Thanks ladies. I hope that’s the case. It was a strange situation with ultrasound tech coming in multiple times to take more pictures then the actual doctor coming in to take over so I’ve been stressing about it. Felt like I wasn’t being told something…but that could just be my anxiety lol

i’m going through it right now i’m short as well and i was a small baby they saying my baby bones femur is measuring an 8 percent and stomach at 12 percent so i been having to go to the doctor twice a week well MFM one day and then OB office 3 days later

@Monae are they just monitoring you? Or have they mentioned if it’s something to worry about? I’m not really sure what to expect or even what to worry about since I went in for one problem and then they found a potential other one.

@Kait they told me that it could be a placenta issue where the baby is not getting enough nutrients they are monitoring the umbilical cord artery. It’s been fine so far i just think he is going to be a small baby they told me that worst case scenario i will have to deliver him early. But I feel like they are overreacting the baby still has time to grow and gain.

they are just monitoring at the moment through weekly BPPs and then i have to get non stress test as well but so far they have been good so i’ve just been praying that things continue to go well. Im sure your baby is fine too 🤞🏽🙏🏽

@Monae ok that’s better than what my mind was jumping to. I was thinking of potential skeletal issues and stuff. Thanks for sharing your situation, makes me feel better. I’d like to keep him baking as long as possible but there are worse things that could happen than giving birth early. Hope all goes well for you 🫶🏼

@Kait yeaaaa i’m sure he is fine he probably will just be small…babies are all sizes plus i heard that those scans can be off sometimes by other moms that have went through the same. they are basing those numbers off of a formula system that they use.

Yea I wouldn’t worry if that’s the only thing they said that alone isn’t a sign of genetic issues unless baby’s head was twice as big or the heart wasn’t nearly as developed in comparison to rest of the body, something like that

This happened to me at a little over 21 weeks when I had my anatomy scan!! Same thing with the humerus and femur. They want to see me at 28 weeks to follow up.

My baby was a few days delayed on that specific bone growth but my husband is 5”10 and I’m 5”7 and we are of Scottish and Irish descent.
