Toddler Teeth

My toddler is ‘brushing’ his teeth twice a day - I use the term loosely! We tried wrapping up as a burrito to let me brush them which has now stopped working and he just screams and cries when I brush them but it looks like his front two teeth are going yellow at the top… Its something I’m really conscious about and am trying my best but really at a loose end now! Any tips or reassurance anywhere?!

No tips but in the same position! Sometimes she lets my partner brush them but she never lets me and always wants to do it herself. Sometimes I have to hold her down and just do them but she gets so upset 🙈

He does them himself then one of us “check them over” which is basically doing them. If he let’s us do it good then our nose honks a few times. If he doesn’t then it just makes a little ‘meh’ noise like it’s run out of power 🤣

We have a teeth brushing song we sing that my daughter loves and she let us brush her teeth for longer while we were singing it. We sang it twice round, once while brushing the bottom and once while brushing the top. She got so used to it that now if I forget to sing the song it doesn’t matter, she’s still happy to let me brush her teeth.

We brush our teeth together. He used to just chew his tooth brush, but now he's actually brushing and mimicking spitting

It’s a struggle for us most days too. Our little boy tonight wanted to use daddy’s toothbrush so I got him a new one out & he’s never brushed his teeth as good as he did tonight by himself. It’s an adult size soft one & will never be left alone with it so thought it was worth carrying on with.

@Kimberley I am just so worried about it being an issue and him havign horrendous teeth - its a real fear of mine!

This was an issue for us for a while, but last week I made a chart for stickers and it has helped a lot, it doesn’t work every time but it puts him in a better mood to actually let me help him, and also another thing that has helped is by teaching him to go ‘ahhh’ to open his mouth we sort of sing it so it’s a bit of fun, and sometimes he likes to use my toothbrush so I just let him have mine and I’ll go in with his and actually brush them

It's like w.restling match in my house! I always get in once a day, regardless. If I can get twice a day, it's a good day! I have to restrictnher arms, as horrible as it sounds, but it's not rough, and I don't hurt her. If I can't get to her top set properly in the morning, and then I start on the top set in the evening! I do at least 20 brushes each set, and yes, I count! 🤣
