Wondering

Do you feel like it will get easier once your kids are in school? Public school? That way you will be able to work more and won't have to worry much about a babysitter. What are your thoughts?

My son is currently in preschool and is having trouble. A little worried he might get kicked out for his behavior 😭

Public schools help a lot with structure, and it might reduce the need for a full-time babysitter, which is a big financial and logistical relief. However, new challenges could come up, like adjusting to school routines, staying on top of homework, managing any after-school activities, or dealing with school-related concerns like safety, bullying, or academic pressure. I think it’s important to find a balance between working more and still being available for my kids when they need me.

I'm definitely trying to find a job now that he's in school but that brings new challenges. Like above homework etc and then when summer comes they're with you all day so you have to change schedule or something if you have a job.

@s a r a 🥀 I’m worried about this too! My son just had a massive meltdown at school. Had to be removed from his class. I just keep telling myself that he will grow out of this as I honestly do not know what else to try. Sticker systems, rewards for good behaviour, even letting him cry it out does not seem to work.

@Lesley I freelance and found it so difficult over the summer holidays. But it’s a tough one because when my son is with me and we are away from the school routine his behaviour overall is so much better. But it’s not physically possible.

If you have a traditional 8-5, then you’d still need after-school care or a babysitter until you get off work. You’d also need childcare during school breaks and the summer. If your employer is flexible and lets you leave at 2:30 to pick up your kids then work the rest of your day from home, it could be perfect. But unfortunately more companies are moving away from fully remote work. I’m planning to work more when my kids are in school full time but will try to only work the hours they’re in school. That’s still several years away for me though!

I agree with everyone else. my own personal experience--My child is in Pre-K right now. Our challenge is routine in the morning and after school. I could tell my dad struggled with this for me when I was younger too so I didn't have a routine set for myself until I got older and set my own routine for what I wanted. But when I was young I didn't understand. My mom however was good at setting routines that I could understand in the morning. Calm patience and helping guide a kid i notice is very helpful when it comes to keeping a good routine. I'm struggling with this a lot right now.

@Rebecca That's what I was going to do. Work while they're in school and be out by the time they're out.

@Makaylla that's what I'm going to do too but I'm just worried how I am going to handle when they go on break.

@s a r a 🥀 Hey, my daughter is also in preschool and has issues with her behavior as well, she is currently being evaluated.

@Ieka I got him an appointment to get him evaluated for ADHD and autism - just in case. He hasn’t been in school or around kids his age so it’s just, ugh.. but his teacher said to not stress about it but in some areas, she see progress in him. It’s just his behavior overall that we’re mainly concern..

@Makaylla That sounds like a good plan. Then you’d just have to worry about breaks, summer, and the days they’re sick.

@s a r a 🥀 You go to the pediatrician for that right?

So according to another parent it gets easier around age 8-9 ( they have three kids). From this age they were able to return to work full-time remotely and schedule their lunch break for school pickup. And the kids could spend time together after school without getting into crazy trouble. They told me to lug my ipad pro everywhere with me at this point and get work done in whatever increments are available - be it two hours or 10 minutes. I have to say that my willpower is just not back to fulltime hours - my brain is fried after 20 and I didn't even sign up my oldest for any extracurriculars besides what the school offers as an extended day. We are very lucky that we have two more years without homework - the school work is all during the day it's just recommended that they read

@Makaylla you’ll speak to your doctor about it and he/she will put in a referral and you call to make an appointment.

No I'm thinking of homeschooling her and she's just 5mo! I feel trapped, bored and sometimes useless. I pick myself up every day while I learn as I go! I used to be so proud of myself having 3 degrees and on top of the game but now real life is hitting HARD!😂 I know Nothing about motherhood and have no guidelines but here and google. I'm a mess, lacking sleep, hungry and the more I swim the deeper I go in this swamp. But still kicking and learning and trying🤣 I remember there were days that when I'd get upset I'd just get out and run around the block, drown myself into work until late night or keep myself busy with crafting or gardening or driving! None of those are possible now! I'm all about this little human right now. It's as if I don't exist anymore as me it's all about her. That's scary and fun at the same time😅
