@Becca I think I get it but it upsets me how it’s different for women with a high BMI. I’d rather just know fundal height. Maybe I could just ask the sonographer to not tell me what the estimated weight is😂 I don’t want to worry myself if I get to 28 weeks and they tell me my baby is already 5lb!!
@Chloe it’s not actually due to your BMI, it’s because bmi = higher risk of developing gestational diabetes so they will be checking baby’s growth as a sign of GD. You can definitely ask them not to tell you unless they are medically required to and just avoid looking at your report. My baby has been normal sized at all growth scans xxx
I had GD and high bmi had to have growth scans and my baby came out at 7lb. Midwife never measured me because I was at the hospital every 4 weeks. They print out the weight in grams on your paperwork they didn’t tell me but I did want to know so just converted it. The scans just measure the same as 20 weeks head, legs ect. I was told my baby would be too short as his legs weren’t growing but now he’s extra tall and when I gave birth he was average.
At growth scans they measure your baby’s head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length to create an estimation of your baby’s weight. They will also measure the fluid around baby and check the blood flow from the cord. Fundal height is the measurement of your bump not your baby so can’t be used to assess your baby’s true size. It’s just to be more accurate in estimating your baby’s growth x
